the neonatal field deals with newborn, premature, and sick babies. in most hospitals, babies are only addmited to the NICU if they have not left the hospital yet. babies can stay in the NICU for months at a time if need be. NICU's are usually devided into three main parts: "intensive care" is where the most unstabe babies are, "intermediate care" is where babies are still on IVs or oxegen, and then a quiet area for the babies that need to grow.
i think that the nurse is a better fit for me becouse it's more hands on. while the docture writes the perscriptions and …show more content…
a docture is only there 64% of the time and thats not even directly careing for them such as feeding and general care. the nurse is there almost every day caring for them and watching them grow. you get to see mirical babies tht at only 22 weeks have a 10% chance of surviving beat the odds and go home.
the down side of being in the neonatal feild is that though you try not every child is going to survive. with being a docture your not as attached to the babies so even though it sucks you move oneasyer because you know you have more paticents still needing you. but with the nurse you may only be assigned to that one baby in a little hospile and you grow attached to it and its heart braking if it doesnt make it
though both of these jobs are incredable jobs i think the nurse one is the best because it is more hands on. it take lees school and you are with the patient more and taking care of them in a hands-on kins of way. though it can be emotionaly draining, in the end you know you helped save a life and to me thats all that
