You asked the following question: “I have an existing building with a wet system. The owner is installing a walk-in cooler that will be maintained between 33°F and 39°F with a thermostat. The top of the cooler is approximately 10 feet below the ceiling so I will need to drop sprinklers into the cooler. Are the sprinklers I am dropping into the cooler required to be dry pendent sprinklers or are standard pendent sprinklers acceptable because it is being maintained above 32°F?” In response to your question we have reviewed NFPA 13, 2013 edition that you indicated as the applicable standard. Our informal interpretation is that freeze protection may not be required.

Does the Queens Supreme Court lack personal jurisdiction over NEPTA? More specifically, Can the Queens Supreme court exercise under New York state law it’s long-arm statute to gain personal jurisdiction over NEPTA, a non-resident, for their alleged cause of injury of Taneka due to their alleged negligence? According to Section 302 of New York Consolidated Laws, Civil Practice Law, and Rules (CPLR 302), if NEPTA “transacts any business within the state” the New York court long-arm statute can be applied. Additionally, personal jurisdiction for New York over the case can be applied if NEPTA “contracts anywhere to supply goods or services in the state” of New York.…

You asked the following question: “We are currently working on a NFPA 13R designed building that has an open and attached porte-cochere. The AHJ follows the 2007 edition of this standard. In section 6.9.5 of NFPA 13R (2007 Edition) sprinklers are not required in any porches, balconies, corridors, and stairs that are open and attached. Porte-cocheres are not specifically listed in this section, but I would assume the reason for not requiring protection for the specifically noted items above would also apply for open and attached porte cocheres.…

Introduction and Overview For several years, the FFA has been thought of by many as the “Future Farmers of America.” While farming may have been the fundamentals of this organization, it has evolved into so much more. Therefore, the idea that FFA is merely a farming organization can be exceedingly misleading to those who have little experience or knowledge of this organization. Contrary to popular belief, FFA’s sole purpose is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their leadership skills, personal growth, and career success through agricultural education. The National FFA consists of 649,355 members, from 7,859 chapters in all 50 states.…

The situation that brought about the need for the FLSA was the Great Depression, and previously weak employment and business laws. In 1938, the Great Depression still lingered, even after the initial downfall of the market nine years earlier. American workers were susceptible to low wages and poor working conditions. To this day, businesses still seek ways to create profit at the expense of workers. According to the Federation of American Scientists, in 1938 one-third of the United States population was malnourished and did not have proper conditions for living (FAS, 2013, pg. 1).…
