Whether it was the A, B, C, D, and F method or the 5, 4, 3, 2, and 1 method, the grading rubric has always been a major technique for schools, and how each student had progressed over the semester. Often times, maturity is known to be heavily dependent with that of one’s age. However, this common belief is not necessarily true. Maturity is often gained through experiences and understanding, rather than seniority. Although being older does offer more time for enlightening experiences, this does not fully cancel out possibilities of younger individuals being exposed to the same instances in a shorter time.…

As human beings in this world, it is customary for us to encounter failures at any given points in our lives. These failures are essential, for we as individuals mature and become better people as we learn from them. In my brief life, I've encountered many failures that taught me life lessons, but one specific incident that inspired me to strive into becoming a better person and truly thinking of school in a different way occurred back when I was just beginning my first year in middle school. Growing up as a child, I always had good grades and did well in school. Throughout elementary school, I did well on all my tests and classwork; my teachers had even told me that my reading skills were slightly above average.…

For the fall semester I am enrolled in Biology 160, Biology 132, Philosophy 112, General Chemistry 101, and University 100 totaling up to fourteen credit hours. Being enrolled in three sciences I do not have the expectation to be a perfect student and have all A’s in those classes simply because those are more difficult classes. For Philosophy 112 and University 100 I do expect to maintain an A throughout the rest of the semester, because my grades are based on participation in activities and assignments.…

In Letter to a B Student, Robert Oliphant explains a letter grade does not define your worth, as an individual. Sometimes you may not receive the grade that you were expecting, however, you should not let those result determine who you are as a human being; you are not your grade. Oliphant continues by stating that although an individual may receive a failing grade, that individual does not have to remain a failing student. He also explains that a letter grade does not determine your life success. There are plenty of individuals who were successful in life, but did not meet the grade average of success.…
