Ever since the program was founded, the technologies and machines used to explore the unknowns have progressed incredibly. According to an article from Gale Opposing Viewpoints in Context, “NASA was created in 1958, largely as a response to the pervasive American fear that the United States would be left behind in the race to conquer outer space” (“NASA”). Ever since 1958, NASA has received criticism for their budget. “Despite the fact that NASA is a frequently mentioned target of government spending cuts, the agency accounts for less than one-half of one percent of all federal spending-or about 40 times less than the Department of Defense” (“NASA). Space exploration may not be cheap, but NASA does more for people than they know. The work done by NASA has revolutionized some of the ways we do things. Especially the way we look at the stars. Many astronomers and fans of NASA would like for NASA to embark on their goal of putting a man on Mars, which they have previously talked about. “In August 2011, NASA created a new department, the Human Exploration and Operations Mission Directorate, to plan for post-shuttle human spaceflight, including a potential return to the Moon, and possible exploration of Mars, asteroids, and deep space” (Tomayko). This would be a huge next-step in space exploration, and with the proper funding, humans could be well on their …show more content…
People use products everyday made by NASA. The scientists at NASA are always looking for the best way to build or do things. According to an article from Gale Opposing Viewpoints in Context, “NASA holds one out of every thousand patents in the United States, and retains the rights to technologies developed as part of their programs” (“NASA”). This fact shows just how much NASA affects daily lives of Americans, not just in space. Lots of medical equipment designed by NASA helps save lives everyday. On another note, NASA also has done research on global warming. This has really helped shed the light on the issue that something should be done about it. Their data proves that climate change is real, and that humans need to do their part in preventing it. With more funding, NASA could create better machines and complete more research for the
