Educate. Inspire. Empathize.

Out of the 4 years of high school, I have spent two of those years immersing myself in the world of NASA academies. My first ever experience with NASA came through VSCS, and I was lucky enough to be selected for the Summer Academy. I had no idea what that week would entail, but I knew that it would prove to be one of the best times of my life. Just as I thought, that week instilled in me a new goal that would ultimately lead to a career involving research at a NASA facility. During that week, I learned to plan a mission, build a rocket, all while being taught by mentors, NASA personnel, and teachers. One of the best group of mentors I had the pleasure of working with was the interns assigned to us for both our

"Why We Should Increase NASA 's budget" Ever since the moon landing, our urge to explore the Heavens has overwhelmed us. From Apollo 11 to the Mars Pathfinder, space exploration has been a big event in the United States, as well as across the globe. Some would say that space companies have too much money given to them, which they believe is an issue. I believe the opposite. If space companies were given more financial aid, we would be much further than Mars right now. This has been an obstacle along with the issue of the competition here on earth between countries, and the hazardness of contamination.…

I am interested in attending the Naval Academy Summer Seminar in the Summer of 2017, because I would like to be introduced to the rigors and challenges that all Midshipmen face while attending the United States Naval Academy. Although I have not received any STEM-related awards, being at the academy would afford me the opportunity to develop friendships with students from around the nation, develop teamwork skills and see what it would be like to push myself in physical and mental situations. Being accepted to attend the Naval Academy Summer Seminar would be a great honor, and would create opportunities that would help me mature into a Midshipman, that will eventually lead me to develop into a naval officer. I have always wanted to join the…

Almost four years ago, I entered Clackamas High School as a confused, shy, awkward freshman. Soon after entering the hallways of this school, I was assigned to a Freshman Assurance group and met with the group leaders. My group leaders were vivacious seniors, who were condescending and gave very little advice on high school. I felt a little intimidated by them, and the activities that they led made most of the freshmen in our group uncomfortable. They told us about their craziest stories and about the teachers who weren't of the most pleasant experience.…

We were in a NASA lab when it happened. I asked her to get a spoon for mixing these two chemicals together. Since she couldn’t find any, she went out to the “extra storage” shed outside. But of course, it had to be thunder storming. I knew she would be fine until it has been ten minutes since I asked her to get the spoon.…

Last autumn I found myself among the mountains of Tibet, wandering through the high desert created by the rain shadow of the mighty Himalayas, looking up at the cascade of unblinking stars that stretched across the night sky. The stars, in their steady glow, revealed a rather strange sight that I could best describe as being both disturbing and fascinating at the same time. It felt like they were giving me an exclusive window to look at the inner workings of the world and everything in it. According to the scientific community, the universe began its "life" roughly 14 billion years ago when space, time and even the atoms in our bodies formed in less than a blink of an eye.…

In dance, you learn quickly that without pure dedication and drive you will never be successful. While talent can come naturally, skill and technique only come with hard work. I spent countless hours in dance studios growing up, working tirelessly to hone these skills and perfect technique. A lifetime of dance taught me what it means to have discipline and dedication to a craft, values which I have also seen reflected in my clinical experiences. Medicine is a practice which calls for just as much discipline, dedication, and drive.…

Thus, many educational opportunities has been given because of space agencies. People become interested in science. These people would then take careers that relate to science: medical scientist, environmental scientist, biochemist and more. For example, the Apollo 11 mission must’ve influenced generations of children to be astronauts and engineers. The movie October Sky would also be a perfect example.…

Space exploration is a vital part to how the world is today. People believe that it is just a waste of money, but in truth it could save the entire human race in the future. Without space exploration, we will overpopulate the earth. The earth does not have enough space for the rate of people being born. Also with overpopulation, means that we will also use up all of our natural resources.…

My primary reason for wanting to transfer to The University of Virginia, aside from genuinely desiring to attend the University that several of my good friends attend, is that I wish to participate in the Aerospace Engineering program—for which there is no comparable program at VCU. Thus far, commuting to VCU and taking engineering, mathematics and physics courses related to my intended major(s) of Mechanical Engineering and Physics has been exhilarating, and has helped to solidify my interest in engineering. I have had wonderful experiences at VCU, such as crafting a coil gun and undertaking a University Teaching Assistant position; however, after participating in the Virginia Aerospace Science and Technology Scholars (VASTS) program, I knew my passion lay with Aerospace Engineering. This passion to innovate and discover in the realm of Aerospace Engineering prompted my need to change…
