Planet Earth is the one place that every human being can call their home. It is shared between every human, every ecosystem, every organism, and provides us with a stable environment that is incredibly rare to find. It is when us as humans begin to sabotage our own success, that we forget what importance our planet withholds. This sabotaging of our success is shown through the extraneous funding of NASA’s Space Exploration Program for 2015. I rise to the affirmative on this bill, to improve our environment, to protect our vastly undiscovered planet, and to ultimately learn from the mistakes that are continuing to sabotage our hope for sustaining an entirely new planet in the future.

Since NASA began, 8.5 billion dollars have been used for manned spaceflight, whereas fundings for earth science only reach 1.9 billion. Congress’ current belief that space is valued four times more than our own Earth is not something we should manifest in. If this global warming continues, numerous cities including Miami, and New York City will eventually be enveloped by the rising sea levels due to the melting of ice formations our oceans. This is something that needs immediate attention, but doesn’t get enough, because NASA’s earth science program simply is not funded sufficiently. Data collected by the Mauna Loa Observatory shows that the rate of increased atmospheric CO2 has more than doubled since 1960, and is continuing to skyrocket. This rate will continue if funding for space exploration is not deducted and given to earth science research. The increased funding would allow NASA to implement programs and increased technology like the production of electric cars to decrease the
