The NAEYC position statement discusses the frame work of developmentally appropriate practice. Developmentally appropriate practice is where the teacher is attuned with the child age, experience, abilities and interests. Teachers must know the child well to help them reach goals that are challenging but also achievable. The NAEYC position statement is also addressing the achievement gap. The achievement gap exists because of Americas demographic. A family’s income, education, ethnicity and language background have contributed to the gap. Early childhood programs in underprivilege areas need to be as productive as the programs in more affluent communities’.
