While fighting the freeze Paul got extremely cold and could barely move his fingers or even speak. When Luis entered the quonset hut he said, “Paul are you alright”(227)? Luis wants to make sure everyone is healthy. The quote indicates that Luis is a caring guy The tone of the quote is sympathetic. Luis is concerned that Paul is sick as a result from the cold weather. Luis is a loving and thoughtful man who want nothing but the best for those he cares about. Likewise he is considerate told each and every person who is spending their valuable time helping him. Paul is going to help in the grove, however Luis would rather everyone stay healthy than save the trees. Luis says to Paul, “ If you get too cold you come into the hut and warm up. If you get too tired you come in and lie down”(218). Luis Cruz is obviously more concerned about Paul and the others workers well-being more than his money making groves. The message behind the quote is that Luis wants a healthy life for everyone. The effect Bloor intended the quote to have on readers is to make them feel as if you were a part of Luis’s family. Similar to the love you feel for a family member and the feeling of how you don't want anything to happen to them. In the end we can conclude how caring and considerate Luis Cruz
