Being in radiology, I care for many patients and only for a certain amount of time so it is important that there is no mishaps between the patient and myself. Having the perception about individuals with tattoos and others who are convicts allows for there to be a barrier put up between us. The obstacle that will get in the way is the fact that I would rather escape contact with these individuals and have another healthcare worker give the care needed. The avoidance will not solve the issue that I may have and I do want to give the proper care to all that are in need. For example, I have done x-ray examinations on prisoners who were escorted by police and I put my own thoughts aside to give the accurate quality of care. The prisoner was actually very polite and I did feel confident and comfortable doing my job in their presence. I am persistent that my own bias towards specific groupings will not interfere with my job. Elimination of my stereotypes is the best option because it allows for certainty that I am equal to all my patients and their care. I want to continue in the future to better myself and eliminate the bias I have by gaining more acceptance and knowledge in race and culture. Interactions with my patients are going to happen on a daily basis and I believe I will be able to look past the assumptions made by media and not place judgements
