On the surface that may seem a little farfetched but Trudier Harris surely believes otherwise. A lot of black women deal with common disorder such as diabetes, depression, heart problems and stress and some of these common problems can be caused because of the stress put on the women in trying so hard to be a strong black women. If actually thought about, the fact of being a strong black woman causing health problems is a little outlandish because one would think being a strong black woman would do more good than bad. Though, that is where Trudier Harris believes society is wrong because being a strong black woman causes a lot of stress and it can very well lead to major health problems. With knowing yourself in and out, comes along with not being easily persuaded. This relates to Raynell because when Troy might have thought that they would have gotten back together as a result of the Raynell situation she shuts that thought down immediately. As Rose realizes that Troy has simply gone too far and states that she may take care of his child but Troy is still going to be a womanless man. Another trait that makes Raynell a strong woman is her ability to stand up for what is right. A “weak” black woman in Raynell’s shoes may have not taken care of a baby that her husband hand with another woman but Rose knew something had to be done. She knew that baby Raynell should not have to deal with growing up motherless just because inconsiderate actions made by Troy. Critics of Raynell may not agree with the fact of Rose taking in Raynell as her own but that is just the type of woman Raynell is. Raynell is a black strong woman who was actually strong not a woman who pretended to be strong. She knew what she was capable of and that is what builds into her strength. As she knew that taking care of Raynell, would be a tough task but she knew she was up for it. She realized that she had past experiences in raising a child.
