In regards to the table above, we found several things to be interesting to the way these particular students think and form ideas. First off, the students we had interviewed were in either 5th or 6th grade, which means that it’s expected of them to think this task may be a little easy. However, most of the students except one, seemed to confuse metal objects, with non-metal objects. For this reason, we think the students formed ideas based on; if the object is heavy in anyway and appears to look similar to metal, then it must be metal. For example, Robbie and Marta both thought that a penny would attract metal.…
Guided Practice (Activity source: Sun, Gould, and Ji, n.d.): • Divide students into three groups. Give one group the components to make the outer ear (the pop-up tent and Play-Doh), give another group the middle ear components (empty two liter bottle, toy hammer, drumstick, and triangle), give the final group the components of the inner ear (bin with water, paper plate, jump ropes, and pillow). Use “Diagram of Ear Model and Actual Parts of an Ear” (Sun, Gould, and Ji, n.d.) page to create an ear with these items. • Walk through the ear model with the students explaining the different parts of the ear and their functions. X. Independent Practice: • Pass out “Ear Diagram: Fill in the Blanks” (Sun, Gould, and Ji, n.d.).…
I showed the students each book in the bag and then showed them how to complete the activities that were in it as well. Once I was finished showing them everything, I showed them the Material List on the bag so that they would remind their parents to make sure everything was placed back in the bag to return to school. During the childrens’ center time, I had the bag sitting out for them to look through. 2. Did the children do the activities in the bag? How did you know?…
Where the Wild Things Are Listening I would read the students the story Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak as a read aloud during a whole group setting. I would then allow the students to create their own “wild thing” by using miscellaneous items, such as paper plates; construction paper; markers; crayons; glue; scissors; magazines; toilet/paper towel rolls, etc. I would also put the book in the listening literacy center where students would be able to listen to the story using type and/or C.D. while following along with the book as well as put the book in the classroom library. Reading…
The evaluation of an object without the visual concept can be difficult for some people, since they experience the internal process where frustration, anxiety and boredom are a barrier from concentration. The assignment that we did consisted in bringing to class an unfamiliar object in a bag so anyone could see it in order to describe the object in details without the visual concept. We exchange the object with someone else who did not know what the object was. My partner gave me her object inside her glasses case; so I decide to close my eyes and try to describe the case also as part of this assignment since I did not see it in details. After I received the object I put it under my desk and open the case.…

After reviewing the lesson, I have concluded that I think it is effective in teaching students about sound waves and the ear drum. The lesson provided a great opportunity for students to be involved in a hands-on experiment in which students make their own model of an ear drum. They have to work cooperatively with their peers and follow directions in order to make an accurate ear drum. Students responded very well throughout…
