Of particular symbolism of the story is related to the period of history, when the action of the story in the first decades after the Civil War between North and South and the abolition of slavery. It is no accident, Emily, whose family had so recently held a plantation and slaves, falls in love with hard workers who apparently represents the factories of the North. For example, if author would started the sequence of events in his story with the youth of Emily, then follow by death of her father, then after familiarity with Homer Barron, next step kill him, and then the funeral of Emily. In conclusion disclosure of the reasons for disappearance of the smell and Homer who’s corpse was found in the Emily bed.
