After an hour of waiting the backup arrived and quickly traced the body with white chalk. The next step was to surround the scene with yellow tape so that the civilians can stay away from the scene. As the other deputies on duty tried to get statements from people I heard a young lady yell “that is Myrtle Wilson” I looked around to try and seek the identifier of the body, but failed. All that was known so far was that she was married, young, and dead. I kept asking myself “where could her husband be and why is someone this young dead on the roadway”. The sheriff arrived at the scene telling me that I was the officer in charge of this case since I arrived first. Following the procedure I moved on to asking the people at the scene if they saw what occurred, which 4 people stepped forward saying they would give me a statement. I immediately told them to go to the police station within the next few minutes. The second witness was a man in his early 40’s who claimed to have seen a yellow sports car come to a complete stop then purposely hit the young lady as she was trying to cross the street. Once again just like the first witness the statement was not too helpful. The only thing I knew so far was that there was a yellow car involved, but there has yet to be a description as to the model and owner. The third witness was no help to the case they came to my office claiming that they wanted an award for being there, but I still had to write this down because it is part of the procedure. The last witness was the neighbor of Myrtle Wilson she claimed that Myrtle was having an affair with someone from the East egg, the vehicle was a yellow sports car owned by a man known as Gatsby, and that she ran in front of the vehicle thinking it was the man she was having an affair with. The fourth witness was tremendously helpful, but now I had to look search the system to find the owner.
