Myfitnesspal Reflection

Improved Essays
After recording my food and exercise from November 20th- November 22nd using MyFitnessPal, I realized a lot about my habits. Throughout these days, I was very consistent with exercise and met the recommended guidelines for physical activity. I did cardio for at least 40 minutes on all three days. At this rate, I met the recommended amount of 2 and a half hours of physical activity per week. When it came to the food I was consuming, I could definitely use some improvement on making healthier choices. According to choosemyplate.gov, I should be eating 2,200 calories daily to maintain my weight. I ate 1,793 on the first day, 1,063 on the second, and 1,593 on the last day. I was under the recommended amount of calories on each day. I consumed too

I plan to change my behavior by resolving to eat significantly less sugar than I currently do. On Lab 1.2, my nutrition score was two out of ten (2/10). I eat few fruits and vegetables, I never consider how many saturated or trans fats I consume and I eat copious amounts of sugar on a daily basis. The only reason I achieved a score of two is because I rarely skip meals, preferring to eat continuously. Despite these bad habits, I am not overweight.…

When completing the super food tracker, I realized how uneven “my plate” was. Before I even looked at my results I knew that I would have a lot of protein because I had turkey, and chicken twice that day. I also thought that I would not have a lot of vegetables because I only had lettuce and tomatoes. When tracking my food, I realized that I did not have any fruit the entire day. I also thought that I would have a lot of carbohydrates because I had a lot of bread and mashed potatoes and that is not good.…

For P.E. Wellness, students were asked to make a five to seven-day observation of what they ate, drank, along with exercise. Prior to these days of tracking, students had a clear idea of how many calories, grams of fat, carbohydrates, and protein they should intake each day. Overall, I was genially surprised about my results from the five days of tracking I completed. I found that at the start of documenting, I had a higher intaking of fat than was recommended but not enough carbohydrates or protein.…

My Struggle with Weight and Body Image Although I have always been considered small, my weight has always fluctuated beyond what is considered to be in the normal range of 1 to 2 pounds. The heaviest I have ever been is 123 pounds and I hit that as a freshman in college, unlike most individuals, I was my second heaviest as a freshman in high school. As a three sport athlete I ate whatever I wanted thinking that I could burn it off on the field and being bigger, muscle-wise was better. At the time food was more important that what I looked like and I felt stronger weighing on the higher end of the 110s than the lower end, and accepted the extra body fat that came with my diet and muscle. At some point as a sophomore I started to care more…

My recommended daily intake for calories was 3,969 and I only was getting about 1900. Like I said earlier, during this time, I was doing my best to lean down a little bit. So, I dropped into a caloric deficit on purpose. Currently, I have bumped up my diet to 5 meals a day, so my caloric intake is much higher.…

    Best Buddies Reflection

Here at Eastern Illinois University, I am a member, but also the secretary for Best Buddies, where we create friendships with adults who have intellectual and developmental disabilities. Throughout the semesters, we have monthly parties where everyone gets together, however, I noticed that some of the buddies looked bored and uninterested in the activities and games provided for them. I then realized that these games were likely designed for previous buddies, and every year our organization grows and gains new individuals, which means our variety of disability changes as well. After that realization, I asked the members of Best Buddies what they would like to see at the upcoming parties in which they were all very eager to provide me their wants and…

My average calorie intake over three days was 7,570.4 calories. My average calorie intake relates to my energy needs in that I should be eating more whole and filling foods instead of sweets and foods high in fats and sodium. About 52% of my overall calories came from carbohydrates mainly in bread, sugars, and honey. About 26% of my overall calories came from some sort of protein like eggs, or chicken. About 9 % of my overall calories came from fats like chips.…

The calculated amount is higher than my average intake of calories, because through the three days my average caloric intake was calculated to be 2,313 kcal. My caloric intake is still higher than my average expenditure (2,305 calories) which is good, because it is only higher by a relatively small amount. In the section labeled calories for the day it was calculated that my total calories for the day are below my goal, but after comparing the two numbers ( 2,522 and 2,313) I’m only under by a fairly small amount of 219 calories per day. This is probably where I should be though, because I believe I fall in between what they would consider to be active and sedentary. My carbohydrates intake is also below the goal, but this was suggested in the calorie and fat report, because my AMDR for carbohydrates was at the lower end of the scale.…

I forced myself to stay on track when given class time to work on homework, which made a drastic difference in the amount of time I had once I arrived at home for exercising. One obstacle that I was not able to predict was the two-week-long visit from my aunt and her two children. During this time, we ate mostly unhealthy foods, and they stayed in the room that has the exercise equipment, preventing me from being able to use the treadmill or weight bench. I also regained the weight I had lost, as well as a few extra pounds. My two other obstacles concerned food, which was a major factor in my failure to reach my goal.…

For the Nutrition tracker, I decided to use the website My Fitness Pal. I used this site because I have already been using it to track my consumption for the last few weeks as I try to increase my overall health. In my opinion, my diet this week was very disappointing with respect to my diet goals. My diet was severely lacking with respect to its completeness. For the most part I had no real fruits or vegetables, the only consumption of those food groups came as a topping on my burger or other main entrees.…

Nutrition An unknown author once stated, “The greatest wealth is Health.” When coming into this class I didn’t know much about health and the importance of physical exercise. I try to make wise food choices but sometimes I get distracted when my friends or boyfriend want to go out to eat and I end up falling into a whole menu full of fat foods.…
