Myers-Briggs Personality Test is designed to help people understand more about themselves and their personality type. Myers used Jung’s theory of psychological types as an approach to classify personality types into 4-letter code which are introversion (I) or Extraversion (E), Intuition (N) or Sensing (S), Thinking (T) or Feeling (F), and Judging (J) or Perceiving (P) (“16Personalities”). There are 16 different personalities that can be described based on the combination of these 4-letter code such as ENFP and ESTJ. Furthermore, there are 4 roles that are used by 16personalities website to determine individual goals, interests, and preferred activities. The roles are Analysts, Diplomats, Sentinels and Explorers.

I always enjoy writing and thinking about theories and ideas (McIver 7), something logics or might have rational reasoning but hard to be proved (abstract). For example, the Big Bang Theory, the logical explanations behind the mystery of disappearance of ships and flights at Bermuda Triangle, and the existence of gravitational waves. This kind of writing and logical reasoning thinking might be useful in my future career as a petroleum engineer as it will require a lot of theories about potential reservoir. However, the habit of quick completion and reluctant in getting feedback for my writing are the real drawbacks to the quality of my writing (McIver 7) because INTJ person can sometimes be overconfidence and arrogant to ask for someone’s opinion. I prefer a simple, straightforward, clear and well organized writing which is what Myers-Briggs describes about my natural style. However, my writing styles are not consistent and vary from time to time. This is because of I am more to a thinker and I usually plan an outline extensively in my head (McIver 7). This causes me to often forget some ideas that I think of. Because of that, my writing styles and ideas become random and spontaneous. Therefore, Writing and Personality suggests INTJs like myself to write a draft for a better outline and to get clear idea about the writing. It will help me producing an orderly structure writing which is what I preferred. As mentioned, INTJ person has the habit of trying to finish work and submit it early which might be a good thing too. But instead of submitting it early, the extra time can be utilized to revise and improve it, add and expand the first draft or write several introductions and choose the best out of it (McIver 7). Since I am more to introvert, working alone will always works best for me but I do have to listen to other’s opinions and feedbacks. However, according to the McIver, I need to know the limits as listening too much advices or feedbacks might cause blockage to an introvert like
