Work Experience At Coles In Westfield Fountain Gate Shopping Centre

I undertook my week of work experience at Coles located in Westfield Fountain Gate Shopping Centre. The work experience began right after the school break and went on for 5 days (from the 11th to the 15th of April). The hours of work were from 9am to 5 pm however an hour of lunch break was set each day at 12pm. The amount of work that was set was reliant to the supervisor and the amount of work that was needed for that day.

Some of the daily tasks and responsibilities that were set were stocking shelves, facing products, rearranging the goods, learning how and what to pack in grocery bags, stripping and reapplying new labels, helping out customers and more duties to display the products neatly so it would seem appealing to the consumers. I think I enjoyed it a lot more because my friends were by my side however, I did not get a tremendous chance to work independently because the supervisor placed everyone in pairs so the load of work would not be overwhelming. I imagine working alone would have been more challenging and it would have provided more chance to think independently. Although working in groups was a lot more enjoyable because we got introduced to new people that we usually wouldn’t have worked with and it showed our communication skills even more to the supervisors.

In my opinion, the highlight of the week of work experience was learning all about the work that goes into running a grocery store and the different work options in the shop. Another highlight was meeting new people and making new friends due to the amount of time spent together, which was certainly enjoyable. This really helped to show the supervisor what sort of skills we have when it came to working as a team and our communication
