The violence in Myanmar, formerly Burma, against the Rohingya Muslims is debatable. Some may call it the fault of fake media, but some may consider it on the brink of genocide. The violence in Myanmar should be considered on the verge of genocide as innocent people are being killed, villages and homes are being destroyed, and people are being forced to leave their homes and families to escape. The first piece of evidence that shows that there is a genocide threat to Myanmar is that innocent people, including children, are being killed. According to a Truth Out article, “...continued discrimination and the denial of basic rights including freedom of movement, the right to livelihood, education, childbirth (the Rohingya are restricted to two children per family), and many aspects of everyday life. As a result, many of the Rohingya have left home and undertaken dangerous journeys in search of safe shelters” (Azad). Along with violence and destruction, people are escaping due to the fact they are being denied many simple privileges, and “thousands of people have been forced to leave their homes” and they are “attempting to enter neighbouring Bangladesh by crossing the Naaf river” (Azad). In an article by INDEPENDENT, the government “[cautions] readers against falling for ‘fabricated news and rumours’” (England). The Burmese government denies the existence of a probable genocide, and even goes as far as to ban reporters from entering the area in which it is occurring. While the fake media does exist, and many news stories are made up, journalists have reported mass rape and violence going on in Myanmar, as well as the satellite images of entire villages destroyed. According to the same article by INDEPENDENT, “The government [claims] the ‘fake news’ stories are damaging the country's reputation abroad, which is confusing many Burmese citizens who do not know what to believe” (England). As a result of denial by the government, there is confusion amongst citizens as to if the violence is actually happening, however, equipment such as before and after satellite imagery show the truth, which is that the violence in Myanmar is in fact real and will turn into genocide if not ended
