Ap World History Test

During my years at high school, I was able to gain the ambiguous title of “nerd”. I always took it as a compliment whenever someone chose to use this label rather than my name because I attributed it to being something positive. I was obsessed with high school and just learning in general. Even though there were times where it wasn’t necessary, I always treated high school like a full time job. I was very passionate about everything I did for my classes, and I was consumed with the idea that I had to get the best grades I could. But I would also try to take the most challenging classes. I demanded a lot from myself, and because I always took the most advanced courses, which is why I decided to enroll in AP World History when I was scheduling …show more content…
I didn’t use my standard methods I put into effect for every other test I took in high school. I wasn’t used to preparing for a test that was so far away, so I had to adapt by familiarizing myself with a new system of learning because simply memorizing information wasn’t going to work this time. The main way I would study was taking practice tests or old AP World History tests. This really helped me become familiar with the way the questions and answers were set up, and it allowed me to have a better understanding of how the test worked in general. The AP World History test has a specific format, so by studying it over and over, I was not only learning the information presented in the questions, but I was also preparing for the specific structure of the questions themselves. Aside from taking practice tests, I found that the key to studying was repetition. I would constantly be reviewing all of my notes and rereading the textbook, trying to impress the information into my memory. Studying all year for one test is as dreadful as it sounds. I would constantly be making simple outlines of the history of the world, adding in only some specific detail. Eventually, I began to get annoyed by the redundancy of the information I was studying, but I knew it was the best way to commit the it to

    1. A multitude of technologies sprung up to help the growth of trade and agriculture. One is the compass created by China. The compass allowed sea traders to more accurately figure out which direction their ship was sailing and improved trade in the long run because traders could get to their destinations quicker as well as return home quicker. Another technology that promoted growth of trade were ships that could sail against the wind like lateens.…

During the second semester of my junior in high school, I collaborated with two other biology students to study for our International Baccalaureate exams in May. I am not trying to say that my teacher was a terrible teacher but the teacher was retiring the following year and did not worry too much about our success in the exams. My two classmates and I decided to form a study group. We each would study and try our hardest to understand particular chapters and then share the chapters with the other two. By going this route, we were able to maximize our knowledge intake on the year and a half biology syllabus which we did not have time for.…

“America Needs Its Nerds” Analysis Essay Kaitlyn Burbridge Leonid Fridman argues that nerds are an essential to our country's continuity. He uses a series of techniques to develop his argument. Fridman starts by describing our country’s ways of bullying our nerds by using phrases like "anti-intellectualism" and "ostracism.” He then proceeds to identify the greatness of nerds by using phrases like “intellectually curious and academically serious” and "the pursuit of knowledge.” This technique alone makes nerds seem vital in U.S. society.…

Several factors facilitated the growth of European power between 1000 and 1500 CE. They included the growth of towns and trade. People would settle in lands where walls and structures were still around for protection during chaos and wars (ch 12, p 433). They then began to create cities from left over structures and buildings from an earlier time (ch 12, p 433). Additionally trade in the eleventh century further contributed to the growth of towns due to the elite wanting luxury goods from both locals and imports from Asia such as silks and spices (ch 12, p 433).…

We have all heard a million times about nerds and geeks but do we actually know the meaning of those words? Leonid Fridman evokes his thoughts about America’s wrong ideology when referring to people who are fervent in achieving academic success. The author utilizes definition, comparison and contrast, and synecdoche in America Needs Its Nerds as rhetorical devices to rectify society’s view of nerds and geeks. Fridman includes the real definition of the word geek to make understandable how America is being ignorant by calling a person names just because it was heard somewhere else. He alludes to the Webster’s New World Dictionary definition of geek, which is “… a street performer who shocks the public by biting off heads of live chickens.”…

    1) One technology that has changed our sensory relationship with the world is automobiles. The automobile has changed everything in our world through our relationships to sensory, from the way people live all over the world, to our society such as family life, to the economy, and even the environment. Let's first look at a world before automobiles and for example our medieval peasant, let's say he needed to go into town, he would have had to use his wagon or horse and let’s say he couldn't afford either, he would have had to walk for many miles. Today things are much different because of the automobile I can get into my car and drive to the next town, which might take 45 minutes to an hour or even less. If I wanted to I can get in my car and drive to New Mexico and be there in a day where our medieval peasant it would take him a week or so to get there where he have bad blisters, and probably sun poisoning.…

Over the traditional four years of high school, I attended three private high schools: a coed, Baptist day school with about 700 students; an all girls non-denominational boarding school with about 70 students; and an all girls day school with about 400 students. The school I attended with the starkest contrast to the school described by Mary Bucholtz was the all girls day school, so I will focus on that school for my response. One point of interest worth divulging is that Bucholtz’s study occurred during the 1995-1996 school year, while I attended high school I will be discussing from 2013-2015. A question to consider is what my high school was like at the time of Bucholtz’s study, and what the high school she studied would have been like during my time in high school. Clothing trends and common form of slang evolve with time, so a certain amount of the differences between my high school and that described by Buchotlz can be credited to the time of observations.…

Despite what many people think, WHAP is not just a class about memorizing as many facts about the world as you can. It is actually about trying to understand human nature and why things happened the way that they did in history. I think that the main reason that I struggled more in history than in any other class was that it is my first AP class. I have always been told that AP classes were the hardest, and I now see why many people think that. There were many instances in which I struggled in that class.…

Leonid Fridman uses rhetorical strategies to acknowledge nerds in this passage. The main purpose in this essay is to show how most people do not wish to be educated in America. Nerds do not receive the same amount of credit as athletes. The author explains how nerds can become social outcasts. Some students study from five-eight hours a day and are “ashamed to admit, even to their friends how much they study.”…

Testing for a lot of people is considered to be what I think of as a hard thing to have to do. Why I think and feel this way is because the most test that someone has to take is taken with having a reason behind it and to follow. Testing is completed to determine what you know or has learned about something. There are many reasons why we have to take a test. Some of the reasons for taking a test is in school to learn where each child’s knowledge of education stands, driving test to receive your driver’s licenses, college entry exam to get into a certain college, military testing to be accepted into the military, medical research testing, etc.…

I expected the difficulty of the material to be harder as this was a college course, but I anticipated taking the same approach I had taken to study as previous history courses. I thought I would go to a lecture, take notes, read the textbook, and memorize the information to be reiterated on the test. However, I quickly learned that this was not going to be the typical history lecture I envisioned. On the first day of class when I heard it was a lab initially I was confused,…
