My Writing Style Reflection

After reviewing my paper on social media usage (Synthesis 1), I noticed some mistakes in my writing style. Fortunately, this class has taught me the skills in order to identify and solve these common errors found in my paper and have the knowledge to fix them. Overall, I think that my paper was well thought out and supported, but needed help mechanically to make the paper sound more professional. In order to help me revise my own paper, I decided that I needed a few fresh pairs of eyes to evaluate my paper and leave feedback on how I can improve my writing. The notes that people left were mostly regarding my wording choices in regards to repetition and expanding my vocabulary.
Throughout my original paper, I noticed that many words were

Meaning, my focus and attention is directed towards proper formatting, and writing a paper that engages a reader. After examining the feedback given to me on my research paper, I have considered some ways to help improve my writing. There are many different areas of a paper that need to be considered when writing. For instance, the tone, audience, grammar, ideas, and sources all are important aspects of a paper. I need to continue growing in each of these areas. When writing papers, I often times struggle with considering my audience and my tone.…

My mind feels like a 1000 piece puzzle missing a piece. I can’t simply find the right words to say to start this paper. It is always like this when freewriting; the idea of freewriting in and of itself frightens me. Never able to put the words in my head onto paper in a way that it can be read eloquently by others. My hands start to cramp automatically at the idea of freewriting.…

I think that paraphrasing will be the hardest for me to avoid while writing. It seems that sometimes it is hard to write or summarize something that is so well written already. The way I will work around that is to stop and re-read what I am wanting to summarize, take a few important words out of the material I am reviewing and jot those down, then go back and write what is needed to complete my sentence or idea. Once I have completed my writing, I will review and make sure I have properly cited my work. Using the guidelines discussed in our “Read Section”, and following the instructions listed on how to source correctly should avoid paraphrasing mistakes and plagiarism.…

Have You Developed a System of Writing That Works Most of The Time I really have not looked up different styles of writing let alone realized there was so many different types of it. My method is not necessarily a method per se, I have always for the longest time just wrote down as if I was speaking to someone. That to me was where my biggest praise came from, that I was able to write with such voice and was able to emulate my presence through the pages. When writing for an essay there is a period where I read and reread the question to gather all the information that is needed. Once the question is fully understood, I try to explain myself in full detail.…

Well, I consider myself to be a decent writer, even though writing is not my strong point. Therefore, as I have come to the completion of my degree, I have learned numerous writing skills along the way. I learned the MLA style, when I started taking my basics in college and the APA style for my upper division courses. At times I get confused on the formats as I consider them to be similar in some ways. Furthermore, they differ and each has its own different style of quoting and citation in articles, books, phrases, etc.…

One of the very first memories I had as a child was lying in bed at night and listening to my mom read stories to me. I would always have my pajamas lying in my bunk bed in my blue paint colored room. Every night before bed I would curl up next to her in bed and pick several books for her to read. As I got older, I would pick bigger, harder, and longer books to read.…

We have to limit the impacts social media is having on society and the English language is one place where this impact is not needed. We cannot change the decade old rules of writing just from a new generation of technology. We have to set boundaries for these new technologies and learn where they are appropriate and where they are not. If we, as English writers are willing to take on the necessary trouble than we will be able to stop these bad habits from continuing…

The writing process is different and unique to all individuals; many people follow the ideal steps of prewriting, drafting, revising, editing, and publishing as opposed to others taking shortcuts, skipping steps, and going straight to editing. The writing process is the course one takes to get from prewriting to the publication of their essay; since everyone is a different, their writing process will also be different. For me, I believe that following the ideal writing process steps are a tremendous help to organizing my essay and spacing out the work throughout the time the assignment is assigned. To begin writing an essay I must first prewrite; to prewrite is to brainstorm ideas from the prompt by outlining, diagramming, clusterings, or…
