“It all begins and ends in your mind. What you give power to, has power over you. If you allow it.” -Leon Brown. This defines the struggle I have with being able to put my thoughts and ideas onto paper. My thoughts and ideas are many, I have so much going on in my brain at one time. I find it challenging to take my opinion or direction and accurately communicate it on paper. I must write first thing in the morning, have complete silence, and need an outline to keep me on track. I must gear myself up to even begin to write. I think to myself that sometimes my weaknesses may out number my strengths when it comes to writing. It is very possible that I believe this because I’m a perfectionist and a bit of a pessimist. As I evaluate my writing I can easily see all my weaknesses and must really search hard to see the strengths.

When I get so focused on writing a paper, I can get my thoughts down, but cannot seem to focus on the correct punctuation or spelling at the same time. There is a section in LB Handbook on editing, formatting and proofreading (pages 33-40) that can assist me in proofreading. Also, I have the tendency to keep using the same pronoun repeatedly in my paper and use vague word choices. For example, in my reflection paper I used the word “things” often. A sample from my paper is, “At the end of the day, all we were told was that things went well.” What I should have said is, “At the end of the day, all we were told was that my mother’s surgery went well.” I can see what I need to do is describe in greater detail what I am talking about. I used the same words frequently in my paper, I need to widen my variety of words. For instance, I overused the pronoun “it” in my paper. A sentence where I used the pronoun was, “It was difficult
