My Writing Strengths And Weaknesses

I have many weaknesses and strengths as a writer. For strengths, I am almost always professional in all of my writings, both academic and creative. Specifically, my writing is way different from the way I speak. I am so used to writing professionally that, even when I am just writing for myself, I still use sophisticated words. In addition, another strength that I have is that I am always trying to find ways to come up with deep analysis for certain pieces of evidence. Throughout high school, I have learned how to fully break apart a piece of evidence and gather all the conclusions that I can come up with. These questions are always in my mind when I come across “meaty” evidence: What’s the significance? So what? Any metaphors or any type of rhetorical devices? Connections? Synthesis? Themes? Motifs? There are more questions that come to mind as well. This is a strength that I have because I never forget to incorporate most, if not all, of the answers to these questions into my writing. Additionally, I also am fairly good at organizing my body paragraphs, including smooth transitions between distinct ideas, and making my body paragraphs connect back to my thesis. The feedbacks are similar to the ones said by Atwood in “Margaret Atwood's rules for writers” and Steinback in “Six Tips on Writing from John Steinbeck.” Both of them write that we, writers, have to hold the reader’s attention by articulating points that the readers will remember for a while. Moreover, Steinbeck says to write freely at first, and this is advice that I heard countless times because I usually have trouble starting my piece. Atwood mentions that writers should do back exercises to help them relieve pain, and this is advice that I heard many times because, for the most part, I am always stressed out when it comes to academic writing.
