My Writing Strength

Improved Essays
Through my experiences with writing essays in high school, I have noticed a few strengths and weaknesses with my writing. My main strength is the structure of my writing. I know what to say when I need to so I don’t tend to ramble on to tangents. Another strength I have is writing about topics that I love because I can just spill all my thoughts out onto paper and never have to worry about having enough sentences. On the other hand, I also have a couple weaknesses. I find it hard to start writing about topics that I know nothing about. I just sit and stare at the empty page or computer screen feeling so unaccomplished. Another weakness I have is that I sometimes can’t get my message out clear enough so when someone tries to read my work they might get confused in certain parts. My own experiences led me to believing my strengths and weaknesses as a writer. My eleventh grade English teacher, Mrs. Gosse, gave the class a research paper assignment. You …show more content…
Mrs. Gosse would always write a lot of comments while grading assignments. I remember getting a comment many times on how concise my writing was and that I say the right things at the right time. I never realized my writing was like this until she told me and it helped me feel more confident in my writing abilities. Negative feedback is also common to receive but it’s very helpful. Throughout secondary school, I have received many questions marks on my work. They’re not much of a comment but I know exactly what it means. They didn’t understand what I was trying to say. It’s difficult for me sometimes to explain exactly what I want to but I know if I keep trying I’ll eventually have a question mark free paper. The feedback from these teachers was very useful and clear to me. Without the comments I wouldn’t know what to improve on with my writing habits and I’m glad they pointed my mistakes

I truly believe my strength is more in writing than anything else. But, I can definitely use improvement in researching, time management, study skills, and defining the topic (Capella, 2015). Weaknesses. The weakness is more in time management mainly due to distractions from others calling the house phone. I always think it is urgent to answer and the call will last sometimes over an hour.…

Everyone has their weaknesses; Superman’s weakness was kryptonite, Akele’s was his heel, and the Wicked Witch of the West’s was water. Since I am part of “everyone” I have weaknesses, too. The key is creating goals to turning my weaknesses into strengths. Out of all the goals I could have come up with, three seem to be the best. One goal I have for this year is to write my paragraphs as fluently as possible.…

I wrote one “source-based argumentative essay” in high school: my final essay from sophomore English. The guidelines were to write a four to eight page paper on any topic of your choice, but the thesis of the paper had to come across clearly. At the time, my personal goals were to write about something no one else would, as well as get an A in the class. As a future collegiate writer, I feel as though I have the habits and potential strengths to be successful, but my biggest weakness is that I do not know how to write a professional essay and I am a reluctant editor.…

Throughout my writing career I have learned many different techniques to writing a perfect essay. I have many strengths, but I believe I possess more weaknesses. My strengths are citing sources, emphasizing words, putting commas. I possess more weaknesses as shown above; there is always room for improvement. Even though I'm in a college leveled class I know I'm still not at that level.…

Adequate writing was always a struggle for me because I struggled with coming up with topics to write about. Even when teachers gave us prompts to write about I struggled writing about them mostly because I thought writing was boring. Another reason I was discouraged by writing was I would spend hours at a time trying to come up with ideas for a prompt and would barely come up with any ideas to write about. Being a civil engineering major I see why writing is so important in my career field. My experience with writing has had its good moments and its bad moments.…

I am also good at being organized so when I, for example, lay out an argument in an introduction, I will stick to it until the end. As for weaknesses, the main ones are that I almost never read over a paper after writing it and, unless I have to, I never write multiple drafts. This is mostly due to time constraints and my final product often suffers for it. I have gotten better on this front, though, so it definitely isn’t as big a problem as it used to be. Another problem I have is that I struggle trying to come up with how to begin a paper, with the exception of a paper in high school about why the North won the Civil War where I began with “Contrary to what many southerners might believe, the South shall NOT rise again.”…

Pre writing is the first phase associated with the writing process along with drafting, revising, editing, and publishing (Alber-Morgan, Hessler, & Konrad, 2007). I personally do not have a very in depth formal pre writing process. I begin each assignment by watching the weekly lecture and taking notes on things that pertain to the discussion post and complete section. Next, I write down various topics and contemplate them over night. I can formulate my ideas better whenever I physically write them out versus when I sit in front of a computer screen and try to type.…

When I went through the process of brainstorming and writing a rough draft, I had many problems. I knew the completion of my rough draft essay would not come out as I hoped it would. Luckily, I knew I could fix my writing mistakes and make it sound better with more vocabulary words. I felt amazing to have accomplished writing a good essay, but also being able to revise it to show my full potential. I have always doubted my writing skills because I felt like I did not have the creativity to write a thorough essay to get a decent grade.…

Writing has been a part of my life for a long time. Growing up through elementary school writing short fiction stories to writing biographies in junior high to research papers and essays in high school. I haven’t ever really sat down to think about how far I have come as a writer, but when I finally did I realized the mountains I’ve climbed from starting out as a writer in my childhood. A lot of people overlook the importance of basic writing skills, myself included, but writing is the foundation from which the way express yourself, speak to others stems from.…
