My Writing Report

Improved Essays
I am writing this letter to inform you of my previous writing samples from quarter one of my junior year at Saint John’s High School. In this first quarter, I have written a total of eight essays, four occasional papers and four in-class essays. Of these eight essays, I am most proud of is my third occasional paper. This paper was about the clowns in Massachusetts terrorizing children and young adults for no reason. This paper was not only my best one that I wrote, but, also my favorite one to write. I thoroughly enjoyed writing this essay because I knew a lot about the topic which made writing this paper easy and enjoyable. Unlike my other occasional papers, this one did not require additional online research which made the writing process that much easier. However, I did have difficulty writing the majority …show more content…
By writing these assignments I feel like I have vastly improved my writing. Before taking this class and writing all of these essays I am not afraid to admit that I was a horrible writer. I am still not that great of a writer but, I have improved a lot. Writing these essays is a tedious task but, it paid off in the end and helped me improve my writing a lot. I feel I have most improved on my sentence structure through completing these assignments. However, I still have a few weaknesses when it comes to writing. My biggest flaw in writing is definitely my grammar. Teenagers and high schoolers all use slang when talking in real life. When speaking face to face no one cares about grammar, all kids use slang words and talk however they want. For me, this affects my writing. Along with my bad grammar to start with this makes it worse. Grammar has always been a problem for me, in freshman and sophomore year I always did horrible on Mr.White’s grammar tests and quizzes. I hope to improve my grammar skills throughout this year and develop myself as a great

After reviewing the rough draft presented to me, I have uncovered many areas need to be improved upon. In order to clearly identify the audience, the author ought to state whom the essay identifies with. One such example is: In today’s digital world letter writing has been lost on our teenagers and although their parents grew up in a world of pen and paper letter writing today’s fast pace has left them in the dust. This rough draft does not have a distinct purpose.…

The tutors are helpful, and they helped me find grammatical errors and run-on sentences. So, the grammatical errors of this essay decrease. In addition, there are multiple perspectives in this essay, and the counter arguments show the consideration of both sides. Overall, the essay content expresses a thoughtful response to the essay prompt, and the essay is well-organized and cohesive with a variety of use of transition words. From this class, I wrote four timed essays, and I learned how to utilize the first 10 minutes to outline and do pre-writing.…

Although my history as a writer is not very long, considering i am only fifteen, I believe it has definitely impacted the way I perceive writing and literature. The main pieces that stuck out to me are a creative writing assignment in first grade, a research paper in fourth grade, a creative writing assignment again in fourth grade, and personal writing piece I wrote in fourth grade, and a biography I wrote in 9th grade. Whether these pieces negatively or positively affected me I think they definitely affected the way I look at writing. The first writing piece I remember, that I liked, was in the first grade.…

The success and final outcome of these essays could not have been accomplished without the assistance and guidance of many people. Without their help, I would not have been able to produce the work at the level in which I did. These assignments could not have been completed without the tutors at the SAGE Learning Center, who have given excellent feedback and helped me with improving my grammar and writing structure. I would like to thank Cynthia VanSickle for pushing myself, and the rest of the class, to write to our fullest potential. I hated it at times however, I learned a great deal about writing.…

Dr. Eastman, I was wondering if you would offer suggestions as to how my writing could be improved in the future. For the midterm, I allowed myself to be distracted by some distressing news and the arrival of my mother. Please do not think I am providing an excuse. This is an acknowledgment that I did not produce the quality of work I am capable of. In asking for feedback, I suppose I am speaking specifically of the court observation paper.…

In collegiate level writing, there are quite a few more things to consider than just the grammar and overall syntax of your essay. Coming into college, I thought I knew everything I needed to know about writing and any essay a professor put in front of me would be a breeze. Unfortunately, I was sadly mistaken. Although my extensive writing practices and assignments allowed me to be able to see the course in its entirety, the theme and workflow of college-level writing involves a great deal more than one would expect. For example, the studies and works of writing experts, such as Elizabeth Wardle, Donna Kain, James Porter, Marilyn Cooper, Carol Berkenkotter, Thomas Huckin, and James Paul Gee demonstrate the extensive nature of writing practices…
