My Writing Process: Different Forms Of Formal Documents

Decent Essays
Over the years, I have had to write many different forms of formal documents. In elementry school, I remember being taught to map my ideas when trying to generate topics to write about. It worked very well for me at first because it helped me visually. Since then, my writing process has changed as well as my reasons for writing.

While I was in the military, I frequently had to fill out different documents and official notes that would be passed along my Chain of Command. Each of my superiors would revise these documents so I would would typically use a listing method prior to filling out the documents in order to avoid missing any information. This kind of writing is by far my least favorite, but it is the one i most commonly find myself having to do. On the other end, I enjoy to journal in my freetime. I will write about anything from how I am feeling to my political and religious views and typically use freewriting as my source of gathering my ideas. Although journaling is my favorite form of writing, it is also the one I am least confident in and I would never put any of it on any kind of public forum.

In regards to my writing process, there have been some central strategies that I have developed over time and some strategies that I have had for as long as I can remember. For example, one skill that I have developed from high school has been to annotate, mark up, and take notes throughout my readings. I found that taking notes really helps me, not only to remember what I read but to go back and be able to point out something in my reading easily. In addition, it helped me understand the readings better.…

To write a draft you don't have to think about what to write it’s just a rough draft. I learned about how to write a thesis statement, creating an effective outline, and how to create an outline in 15 minutes. I learned that organizing an effective essay is like constructing a new building. It requires a detailed plan, a blueprint to develop a thesis statement. An outline serves as a blueprint for an essay and helps guide the writing process.…

Writing is an art; we create our thoughts in your mind and express it on paper. Once we start writing we keep getting new ideas and when we re-read what we wrote, sometimes it might surprise us. I like to write during early mornings or in the evening when it is quiet. My reading table is facing towards the window so when fresh air is in my room, fresh ideas generate inside me as well. I make sure to have some healthy snacks and a bottle of water in front me…

Painting an Essay My writing process is similar to making art in many ways. When painting, one has to be delicate and deliberate, hoping for the best, but working with mistakes. Every word must come together to create an image that speaks to the audience.…

If I was writing a paper that required a specific number of paragraphs or pages I would typically plan my paper using the four square method. If I was writing an important paper I would write a rough draft, then as I was typing it I would revise it and fix any mistakes I found. One thing that remained consistent in my writing process, no matter the type of paper, is after I wrote the paper I would try to find more grade level appropriate words instead of the simple words I originally used. While writing essays for this class I came to find it is better to combine my writing processes to write the best possible essay I could. I found the best steps for me to take in writing my paper are to write my ideas down in some form.…
