My Writing Experience

Improved Essays
The experiences that I had from a young age shaped who I am today as a writer and helped me to appreciate writing. As I grew older, I didn’t like to write about myself much; however, when I was younger that was my favorite part about our English classes. I always had so many fun stories to tell. Writing and reading are intertwined, and when I was a child, my love for reading impacted my love for storytelling. We always had plenty of books made for young readers in the house. My mother also supported my love for reading by taking frequent trips to the library with me.
When thinking of my childhood writing, I have one distinct memory which stems from fifth grade. Fifth grade was the first time I actually remember revising and editing a

As I grew older I noticed how my grandfather was kind and nice to people, I figured that's how he got people to like him. All of that didn't matter though, it was how he wrote things on paper, how he wrote what would be done and how he would do it. My interest in writing began there. Writing is an essential part of my life, it is needed to get my point across to my family or friends.…

My writing experience: I didn’t start to read until I was in first grade. Every week we would go to library to check-out two books and take a test on the books we read on a computer. Every day in English we read a short story to ourselves then we would play games dealing with the story to make it fun. To be honest I never really did a lot of writing in Elementary , Middle, or High school so I can’t pinpoint when I started writing. In essay writing I learned its always good to express yourself with your own opinion.…

Mrs. Hulsey, How could I ever thank you enough for instilling in me a love of English so deep that it resonates within my soul? It’s not just what I do, it’s who I am! From keeping us from snickering too much about the loss of Juliet’s maidenhead to opening our eyes to a new society in “Animal Farm”, you bestowed upon us a sense of culture and credibility that will last throughout our lives, especially in that of a writer like me. I always knew that I wanted to write, but writing isn’t just writing… it’s research and it’s creation…

At nineteen years old I have written more papers, letters, texts, e-mails and notes then ten people can even remember, and in all honesty only three really stick out in my memory: a four page paper on my dream vacation from ninth grade, my five page research essay from last semester, and my very first college essay also from last semester. With these three in mind I decided one was not like the others, thus my most memorable writing experience would have to be my very first college essay, a short three page paper assigned on a pivotal point in my life, entitled “No, Because I Said So.” This is my most memorable writing experience for three reasons, the first being because it was so difficult for me to write, the second, it took me writing the paper to fully understand the life lesson my pivotal point had taught me, and the third, most important of all is because I was able to share my essay with Mrs. Barrett, thanking her for creating the pivotal point in my life.…

Children’s stories make up for the complexity of chapter books being read today. Whether we read or write, everything comes together through the imagination and integrity of our desires among the genres we have access to. In Kindergarten, reading as well as writing stood the main goal for me. As soon as the teacher announced about a story-teller arriving to our school library, Ecstasy began filling in the pit of my stomach. I absolutely loved when someone came to read to our class.…

My journey with literacy has been a part of my life and began before I even entered school. During my early days you would say I was a “repeater”. I repeated things that I would hear from my parents and people that were around me all the time. Some of them were good to say and some not so good to say. My parents always sat down and read to me.…

Throughout this last quarter, we have had the opportunity to write many different stories from the few prompts that we have gotten, and this is a good experience for us as young writers. I feel like I have learned a bit more than what I had previously known due to these prompts, but I also feel like I have become much more confident in my writing than how I have before because of the group readings that you have enabled us to do, and when you give us the chance to see what people really perceive and think about our writing, it’s a really liberating experience to read directly what people thought about your writing and have that direct feedback, to me, it invokes a real visceral feeling, to just hear what people thought of my writing is a genuinely great experience for anyone creatively and I thoroughly recommend it.…

I remember learning to read and write at a very early age. I enjoyed reading and writing very much then, and still today. According to my parents, I learned to read and make up my own stories somewhere around the age of four or five. I recall not enjoying the outside and bugs very much, and instead I begin learning to create my world in books. I credit my early reading of Dr. Seuss Books, and Nancy Drew with my love to write.…

To me, writing has always been busy work and something that teachers only used to create grades. My writing experience in high school was very limited to one category in: practice AP essays. The writing I did in class was always preparing for AP exams and was very fact based. Most essays, such as history, were only used to show that I knew the material and weren’t graded on how good the writing was. I didn’t feel like I had any freedom to stray away from the format that the AP graders expected because I didn’t want that to affect my score.…

Since learning how to scribble characters onto a page in first grade, I was eager to learn and thrilled to read. Before I knew how, I pretended to read books by reciting them from memory. I remember the “books” the second graders published that consisted of an illustrated top half of the page and the story on the bottom 5 lines. I never knew why I was required to draw, yet perhaps the presence of two art forms enhanced the story. In third grade, I kept a journal that was a yellow notepad encased in a blue cleaner company folder.…

My screams ripped though the lazy Sunday afternoon lull of my childhood home. The noise that evoked from my mouth would have led someone to believe I was being held captive in some kind of torture chamber. Sunday afternoons often sounded like this since I had entered kindergarten. My dad had taken it upon himself to teach me to read before anyone else in my class. Being the stubborn child I was, decided that this was a wretched idea…
