My Writing Experience

Improved Essays
I have never really enjoyed writing this comes from feeling I don’t really have the skills I need to be a competent writer. However in high school I loved writhing poetry I never wrote a journal but I would use my poems to vent my feeling and to basically cope with being a teenager. This would probably be my most positive time with writing after I graduated, I quickly learned that finding the time and motivation to write was almost nonexistent. With no time or inspiration, I slowly stopped writing and eventually thought of writing as something negative again. This is because besides writing poems I never really liked or understood writing, there are so many rules that did not make sense to me and a lot more that still do not make much sense.

My writing experience: I didn’t start to read until I was in first grade. Every week we would go to library to check-out two books and take a test on the books we read on a computer. Every day in English we read a short story to ourselves then we would play games dealing with the story to make it fun. To be honest I never really did a lot of writing in Elementary , Middle, or High school so I can’t pinpoint when I started writing. In essay writing I learned its always good to express yourself with your own opinion.…

As I grew older, I started to dislike reading because it just seemed boring to me to read the books or novels we had to read in school. Although, I did enjoy to read my own personal books that I checked out from the library, reading was just something I didn’t have much interest for as I did for writing. I greatly enjoyed writing. Most of the writing I have done, whether it be academic or informal, has always had a touch of a personal experience and emotion. I have loved the feeling of calculating thoughts and getting them down on paper.…

Writing has always been a pastime for me. When I was younger, I loved writing stories just for fun or to have something to share with my family and friends. I remember being able to sit down for hours on end and write full pages worth of writing. Whether it made any sense, had proper grammar, and even if it was legible didn’t matter to me. It was writing that I could truly say was my own and be proud of.…

My writing experience in and out of school has almost always been seen exactly the same. It’s work, you do it for the grade and for some you suffer the entire time. On the occasional paper, usually one with no restrictions and you choose your subject, I find myself in a love and hate relationship with it. The fact being that writing papers has almost always been seen as homework for me. Have your paper done by this day, it needs to be this many words, and no grammatical errors just isn’t something I’d find myself getting hyped for every saturday night.…

I chose to revise the first and forth essay. I chose these because they are the shortest essays. I know you wanted me to revise my research essay because I did not have parenthetical citations, but during my writing center visit I asked about those and I learned where they should be and how they should look. When I revised my papers I tried to think about the questions someone else who is not familiar with the topics would ask about my papers and I answered them.…

To me, writing has always been busy work and something that teachers only used to create grades. My writing experience in high school was very limited to one category in: practice AP essays. The writing I did in class was always preparing for AP exams and was very fact based. Most essays, such as history, were only used to show that I knew the material and weren’t graded on how good the writing was. I didn’t feel like I had any freedom to stray away from the format that the AP graders expected because I didn’t want that to affect my score.…

If you were to ask me about my high school writing experience, I would tell you that I did not have much experience. We did not have any classes at my school that were specifically writing classes. At my high school, we just had regular English classes where we would occasionally do a few papers in. My English teacher senior year was a great person, but did not necessarily teach us a lot about proper styles of writing papers. Coming into college English, I did not feel well prepared with what to expect for a college level writing class.…

Writing has always been a part of my life that I have both fond and not so good memories about it. Starting in the early years of elementary school, I can remember teachers emphasizing us to be creative in our writings so that they would stand out from the others in the classroom. Some people may think that writing is just to get through an assignment and on to the next one; however, it has always had a way of enveloping me into the writing process since high school. Throughout my English classes in high school, I grew from being an average writer, to feeling like I was excelling at my work.…
