It was always difficult for me to write an essay in the English language. Douglas’ essay showed the true importance of writing with the following lines: “I wished to learn how to write, as I might have occasion to write my own pass. I consoled myself with the hope that I should one day find a good chance. Meanwhile, I would learn to write” (p.4). Although my experience in quite far from the character in the essay, we, however, have the same need to learn how to write properly. In Kuwait, we wrote all essays with the same method in Arabic. I was shocked that the English language had more than one method in writing essays. When my teachers in UCR told me to write an essay, I wrote the wrong method. For example, when my teacher told me to write a story, I wrote a formal essay and when he told me to write a formal essay, I wrote a story. In that time, I could not give up because that was my dream to study in an American university, so I tried hard to learn methods of writing. Also, I had other problems and I still have when I write essays including grammar. These affected my grades and they continue to affect my future grades if I do not do anything about them. The good thing is that I am already working hard to avoid them as much as I can. My UCR teachers had a big part in making me better at writing essays. They did all that they could to teach me how to write. Finally, I came here to the University of South Alabama because I got 75 in TOEFL exam while UCR wants a score of
