Reflection On Engl109x

Good Essays
My writing experience prior to taking ENGL109x was not good. I have always had trouble with how to begin my essays. I honestly never really looked into strategies that can help me begin my essays, therefore I was stuck for some time until I could come up with something, then I begin to type. Not only did I have problems with starting my essay, but I also had problems with how it flowed, especially to the reader. Since English is my second language, grammar errors is something I have always had an issue with. Grammar errors affects the flow of the essay when a reader reads it. My revision experience prior to taking ENGL109x was not helpful. I had a hard time revising my own work. One of the reasons why was because, I didn’t like to spend much time on my work. I hated reading my own writing because, I am my own worst critique. When I did read through it, I never really knew what needed more attention or fixing because my grammar was bad and my use of punctuation signs …show more content…
In addition, it has helped me improve my writing skills, grammar and punctuations. Receiving feedbacks on the discussion boards and during peer reviews helped me notice the errors I couldn’t see when I reviewed my own work. It helped me know honestly how my paper flowed, if it made sense to the reader and how they were able to briefly summarize what my writing was about. I feel that I have changed as a writer. I have become more aware of my writing skills and always kept in my mind that there is always room for improvement. I have a better control of planning out my papers, so I’m not stuck with nothing on paper for hours. When it comes to planning out my paper I brain storm and also use an essay outline which helps me organize my thoughts especially when it comes to what I will be talking about in each body paragraph with supporting

I understand what I need to write about, but just do not know how to start it. However, what has helped me with my writing process has been setting up a draft in which I write down what I will talk about in each paragraph. Also, peer reviews have helped me so much with my writing process. I like having my peers read over my essay and give me feedback. This helped me know where I needed to make changes and parts I did well on.…

Also with peer reviews, you get a chance to read other people’s writings. With that, you can get a chance to see other people’s ideas, and that could spark new ideas for your own writing. With the workshops, we got actual criticism from our teacher. With that, we can get pointers on what we need to fix and what works in our writing. This was extremely helpful since we could fix all the mistakes and then turn in our papers to hopefully get a higher grade.…

Reflective essay Writing was very hard for me. There were many mistakes I made before 211, but now I feel much more comfortable writing my essay and I will be successful in Ewrt 211. Before 211, I was a writer that didn’t understand much about writing and I often made my reader confuse. Every time I had to write an essay about something for the class, I didn’t know how to organize my ideas and I didn’t know how to put them together. I jumped into writing without second thought and wrote what was on my mind.…

Developmental Reading Memoir When it comes it reading, it is something that I often cherish and embrace. However, I have faced many obstacles to have the reading capability I have today. From humble beginnings, I was muted and was unable to speak my native language Creole or English. Which resulted in some delays in reading development. Once my family and I arrived to the United States it was difficult to adapt to our new setting due to knowing English or us not speaking.…

A major issue that I identified was with in my completion of the writing assignments. My writing assignments fell short of success because there were times where I did not properly follow instructions which caused me to lose points. For example, my format and spacing were not correct for the essays and I also forgot to attach the rubric to my paper. I could really use some work on remembering to read all of the instructions and to double check my work after I finish the assignment to make sure I do not leave anything out. Another weakness that I experienced was grammatical errors in the papers.…

Reflection on exam I am not adept at writing, hence, generally speaking, writing essays gives me anxiety. So when the time is not unlimited, and factoring in my inability to clearly express my thoughts on paper, I am unable to perform my best. Perhaps my major problem is my anxiety, as I often skim quickly over passages and immediately get stuck on small specifics that I pick up at first glance when feeling pressured. I really strive to write scholarly literary analyses and I feel disappointed and frustrated because no matter how hard I try to think deeper and connect the device with its purpose, I never seem to succeed. I feel annoyed with myself as I feel like my hard work doesn’t pay off.…

Personal Journey Writing has never been a favorite activity of mine, ever since I was young I found it difficult to put my thoughts down on paper. Possibly because I was always afraid of what people thought about the things I was saying. But the thing that impeded my ability to write the most was my lack of concentration, as soon as I start to write down one of my thoughts I find that my mind quickly starts wandering off to other places. I think it happens because I’m not overly fond of writing, and I’d rather be doing something else than struggling to get my ideas on paper. For me there is a bigger issue than just having the concentration to write an essay, the issue is that for me to write a decent paper I need to have a good amount of knowledge…

Some changes through the semester I believe were immensely beneficial to my writing, while others; now that I am aware of them I can work to change them into more productive habits that will help me and my writing to improve. One of the questions asked on the survey that I found the most intriguing was my change in how I answered a question concerning if I ever came up with new intuitive ideas concerning my topic. My answer went from rarely, and changed to often, which I believe is greatly connected to the significant amount of time we spent in class going over and examining essays in class. The class discussions that we have had have greatly helped me to see and examine what is being said in a more insightful way, which has significantly helped me to create my own in depth perspective. My overall experience with English 219 has been an incredibly positive one, I have learned a surplus of beneficial factors about myself concerning my writing, and many useful tips to use and apply to my writing throughout class and through the WSI survey.…

Secondly, while creating my writing piece I was reminded how to properly format and structure as well as choose better use of language. Every writing proposal I was presented with had a certain format and structure. For example, the way I would set up a paper explaining a problem versus the way I would set up an argument piece are very different. My use of language though this course has developed by creating sentences that flow nice and smooth. Finally, revising drafts and receiving feedback from my teacher and classmates has helped for the most part.…
