Reflection On Engl109x

My writing experience prior to taking ENGL109x was not good. I have always had trouble with how to begin my essays. I honestly never really looked into strategies that can help me begin my essays, therefore I was stuck for some time until I could come up with something, then I begin to type. Not only did I have problems with starting my essay, but I also had problems with how it flowed, especially to the reader. Since English is my second language, grammar errors is something I have always had an issue with. Grammar errors affects the flow of the essay when a reader reads it. My revision experience prior to taking ENGL109x was not helpful. I had a hard time revising my own work. One of the reasons why was because, I didn’t like to spend much time on my work. I hated reading my own writing because, I am my own worst critique. When I did read through it, I never really knew what needed more attention or fixing because my grammar was bad and my use of punctuation signs …show more content…
In addition, it has helped me improve my writing skills, grammar and punctuations. Receiving feedbacks on the discussion boards and during peer reviews helped me notice the errors I couldn’t see when I reviewed my own work. It helped me know honestly how my paper flowed, if it made sense to the reader and how they were able to briefly summarize what my writing was about. I feel that I have changed as a writer. I have become more aware of my writing skills and always kept in my mind that there is always room for improvement. I have a better control of planning out my papers, so I’m not stuck with nothing on paper for hours. When it comes to planning out my paper I brain storm and also use an essay outline which helps me organize my thoughts especially when it comes to what I will be talking about in each body paragraph with supporting

The reason why I said I didn't have a clear understanding because I'm so use to my teachers explaining everything and I knew what was expected. I can apply this in the future by making sure I understand the reading because it has a big effect on my writing. I would say I haven't learned much about the stages of the writing process. During the first half of the semester for ENC 1102, I believe that my writing skills have improved from ENC 1101; some of which are getting to page length, correctly citing a source, and incorporating how a quote is related to my argument. I still have some errors within my writing that I have not quite figured out how to tackle. Some concepts that I have not gotten down to a tee must be coming up with a thesis statement, basic grammar errors, introducing quotations, and repetition. I have also learned how to distinguish the difference between a personal essay and an argumentative essay with first hand on the two types and how why my grade differed from essay one and two.…

Writing has changed my perspective on various aspects of my life. Some of the essays that I have written in the past have opened doors to new ideas. These essays have helped me make connections I feel I never would have made without writing. I believe this is because I enter my deepest level of concentration when I write. This heightened level of concentration I reach when writing has allowed me to reflect on important areas in my life such as self-awareness and motivation.…

Over the course of English 102, I have developed a new set of skills and learned to become a better writer. When I first came into English 102 I struggled with many different concepts of writing. During the semester in English 102, my writing became stronger because I learned how to incorporate evidence into my argument, do more thorough research, have smoother transitions, and have more organization throughout my essay. I learned how to peer review better and to take what others say and incorporate it into my essay. In the beginning, before English 102, I struggled with good organization and flow to an essay, sandwich evidence into paragraphs, and having strong arguments in persuasive essays.…

When I look up the difficult word, I would find the closest appropriate definition.…
