My Writing Class Analysis

At the start of this class, I was a person that avidly enjoyed writing and often did so in my free time. I was very excited to start this class but also nervous because it was my first college class and I didn’t know what to expect. The most nerve-racking part for me was posting my drafts for the whole class to read. I am a perfectionist and knowing all the other students were going to read and respond to my writing made me very anxious. However, the students commenting on my drafts helped me tremendously and made me a better writer. Throughout this class I learned that I need to be more patient with myself as a writer. At the beginning of the semester, I noticed that I expected my writing to be perfect and worthy of an A the first time I sat down to write. This was never the case and I was hard on myself because I expected everything to be perfect. With the peer responses on the rough drafts I could see what areas of my essays were good and the areas I struggled and that helped me more and more throughout the semester. I also learned that I am even more of a perfectionist than I first believed, I would go through and revise numerous times never …show more content…
The literary analysis essay was certainly the most challenging for me to write and to start. I had all the ideas and reasoning’s for the way I felt about the story I was just unable to put them into an essay that flowed nicely. It took me multiple times to format the essay correctly to make sense. This was another instance that the peer responses helped me and I could make the corrections needed to better my paper. My favorite essay was the literacy narrative. It gave me a chance to write about a very important moment in my life and I was grateful that we got to pick the topic. Getting to pick the topic of the essays was also very helpful in exploring what topics I was better at writing

On the first day of class, I felt pretty confident about my level of skills as a writer, but little did I know there were a lot of aspects in my writing that could be improved. As time progressed and we learned more about colloquial language and little things I could change in my essays to further advance and improve my writing. Now, I feel even more confident about my writing and know that all of these little changes I can make in my writing create a better flow of ideas and a higher level of formality. I feel that throughout this semester I have been greatly challenged as a writer and have advanced the most that I ever have in writing within such a short period of time. I have put in a lot time and effort into this class in order to create…

In article “So you’ve got a Writing Assignment” Corrine Hinton said “When getting a writing assignment, you should read it more than once just to get knowledge of what they are really asking for”. Hinton claims that it is really important that people carefully read their assignment again and again to understand it properly because when people don’t know the purpose of writing assignment exactly then it is really hard to write well. Again I argue that reading is the back bone of writing. I was not a good reader so I was doing mistake that i did not read my writing assignment properly and at the end I failed and it irritates me because I worked hard…

As I first walked into classroom W3 to begin my first day of class in Freshman Composition, I could not help the nervous feeling in my gut. I have always gotten away with writing papers at the las minute, and I could tell right away that I would not be able to do that in this class. Although the instructor seemed nice enough, I was still nervous about all of the work outside of the classroom required. Despite the feeling in my gut, I still set lofty goals for the class, most of which revolved around receiving an “A” in the class.…

I have personally learned many things from this course. This course is one step up from the previous writing course I have completed and it shows in the requirements from the essays. I enjoyed the class discussions. To me though the most important thing I have learned would be to write my essays and have it proof read and improved as much as possible as well as the need for this when prompts are as open as they were here. This has been taught to us this class many times through many different methods.…

The English language is my secondary language. For that reason, I have had to try harder not only during the course of my Freshman Composition class, but in general during the most of my academic career. In other words, I have had to put more time and effort than typical in order to catch up, but I should say I have always loved it. That being said, I believe that, so far, I have done a pretty good job, obviously not in writing perfect and err less papers, but in setting foot in the right path in which I get to learn more about the nuances of English writing as each day goes by.…

I have learned that it is very important to be aware of my strengths and weaknesses in my writing. Taking this class has helped me understand the strengths and weaknesses in my writing skills, and it has given me the opportunity to strengthen the areas in which I was weak.
