Camacho went on to state that the average advance paid to writers by traditional publishing companies is $5,000 (329). Comparing this to the previous statistic, I could not help but notice that at face value, self-publishing means a writer would only earn a tenth of what they would publishing traditionally. This sways my opinion heavily in favor of abandoning self-publishing for traditional publishing. However, in considering these statistics, I realized that Camacho did not consider those who self publish books with no intention of selling a vast quantity when comparing these statistics. Camacho himself mentioned that there are those who self-publish books that they wrote only for the love of writing, or books only intended for their friends and family to read (335).…

Some of the most important occupations in the world are the ones most people do not stop to think about and appreciate. Despite most popular career choices such as doctors, teachers, lawyers, and IT workers come to mind easily, there is much more than those. One underrated career would be an author, novelists specifically. Though most people do this is a hobby or part time job, this can and is a full time career that many talented people put all their effort in to satisfy their audience. If many people wish to write a book, it is hard because "strong competition is expected for full-time jobs because many people are attracted to this occupation" (Writers and Authors: Occupational Outlook Handbook:: U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics).…

I have never really enjoyed writing this comes from feeling I don’t really have the skills I need to be a competent writer. However in high school I loved writhing poetry I never wrote a journal but I would use my poems to vent my feeling and to basically cope with being a teenager. This would probably be my most positive time with writing after I graduated, I quickly learned that finding the time and motivation to write was almost nonexistent. With no time or inspiration, I slowly stopped writing and eventually thought of writing as something negative again.…

“A writer is someone for whom writing is more difficult than it is for other people.” ― Thomas Mann. Writing is a subject that is different for everyone. In my opinion if I could write about a topic I choose and I am passionate about I know my papers would be interesting to read. On the other hand, I when I am given a topic to write about I think it is harder to make the paper interesting and enjoyable to read.…

Many of my colleagues will tell you they did not, and do not enjoy and sort of writing. Most cite their bad experiences beginning with the American public school system. I, however, had a different beginning to my writing career. Beginning early, with my writings of candy colored equines, changed and helped my early transitioning to academic writing. Therefore, thought the topic may be tedious, and very boring, I still manage to take some pleasure in writing.…

Describe your educational and career goals and explain what or who has inspired or helped shape these goals. During my high school years, I recall working in the fields during vacation breaks with my mother harvesting tomatoes, picking up cherries, and pruning grape vines. Fascinating as it sounds, I was always intrigued to understand why fruits and vegetables spoil or often cause food poising in humans. Although, when I questioned my mother why these fruits spoil, she responded it was due to "little bugs," which was not a sufficient response.…

Describe Yourself As A Writer I’ve come to realize that after years of writing papers, I’m actually a better writer than I give myself credit for. I’ve noticed over time that I’ve advanced in how I structure my paragraphs, however, not so much with my sentences. It’s like making a cake look delicious at first glance with frosting and decorations, but then you take a bite and there 's way too much sugar or it 's overcooked in the inside. My strength in writing includes: using better words to describe what I’m writing about, spelling complex words, creativity, and passion.…

To me, writing has always been busy work and something that teachers only used to create grades. My writing experience in high school was very limited to one category in: practice AP essays. The writing I did in class was always preparing for AP exams and was very fact based. Most essays, such as history, were only used to show that I knew the material and weren’t graded on how good the writing was. I didn’t feel like I had any freedom to stray away from the format that the AP graders expected because I didn’t want that to affect my score.…
