6. Honestly I am beginning to see an improvement in my writing. Overtime I have made less mistakes in my writing as well as understand my assignments. Therefore these changes allow me to construct stronger sentences and that is when the skills I learned manifest in my writing.…
I have learned about my writing process that I like to be creative when I write. I also like my essays to be organize before I write, so I know exactly what to write about. I believe I am strongest at freestyle writing. I like to jump in and just start writing. Even if I don’t always know what to write, I can usually come up with something.…
In Teaching for Joy and Justice renowned author Linda Christensen explore how to make student’s learning for reading and writing meaningful. She argues that in order for students to see purpose and meaning in their writing they must be assigned writing assignments that have real world application. In order for this to happen, the teacher must assign writing projects that allow students to share their writing with the world—having an authentic audience. For my project this week I decided to take this idea of having an authentic audience and placing that in the center of my student’s writing. I want my future students to not write for just the teacher, but to write for the world.…
I am firm believer in making the best out of every situation. This semester has been a great learning experience that came with a lot of adjustments and surprises. I started off my semester to a rough start due to late registration which led me to playing catch-up in a lot of my courses. Even with these minor setback I still was able to achieve some of my goal that I made for the semester.…
As a senior at TCPS, I am currently taking my second dual-enrollment college course, comp one. Before this college level writing course, I thought I had the skill of writing papers mastered. Throughout grade school, writing a paper in a few hours was easily achievable and was the general thing to do. My peers and I easily wrote papers without effort and made good grades. Therefore, when I started my first college writing course, I thought this was the thing to do.…
This year I learned more about writing than any others years I had English. I loved the hand on practices, tips, and lessons that we always had to prepare us for the writing assignments. I am so used to learn all rules and figure out when to break them, and when to keep them. It was really confusing how l learn to write. Therefore I was never a good writer or cared to be one.…
When it comes to writing for either a class or for my own enjoyment, I never thought of what I actually was good at doing as a writer. I just wrote what came to mind. Now that I’ve given it a thought, I’ve realized that I am consistent in being able to write in complete sentences. They may not always flow or fit together as well as they should but they are complete sentences. Writing is unquestionably hard for me.…
All people have life experiences which influence their understanding of reading and writing. Some of them turn out to have a great impact on the world such as Sigmund Freud- who published a multitude of books developing our understanding of psychology, or Shakespeare- who has widely shaped drama writing and even the English language. I too have a considerable amount of experiences that shaped my writing, not enough to change the world, but enough to where I could share with you the ones that influenced me the most. My first experience was in my childhood.…
We have all faced many challenges throughout our scholarly careers. It started in our early childhood years when we first learned how to read and write. Since then, reading and writing have been a norm. Time passes by and our brains develop learning new skills along the way. Each year, we advance grades preparing ourselves for the next.…
I had always assumed that my talents in relation to writing had a relatively mediocre limit, a “glass ceiling” of sorts. All my early literary efforts resulted in collapse and a greater distaste for writing. For me, writing was like trying to catch sand slipping through my fingers: never attainable. I remember a much smaller version of myself sitting down with a freshly sharpened pencil, extra-wide lined paper, and leave engulfed in eraser shavings. The beginning of the story would always start off promising, but no longer than twenty minutes into writing, I would realize that my story had no conceivable ending and needed to be immediately shredded.…
Yes, I have difficulties in the conversation with an audience that is not physically present because my writing skills are not well. To enter a conversation, I need to summary other’s view in the way which they can recognize and respond it with my own ideas in kind. To help audiences to recognize the person who I'm writing about, I often use “she/he argues that” or mention their name in my sentences. I usually try to struggle coming up with something to write because sometimes I might have no ideas about what I will write about. After read and review the templates on pages 8 & 9, I recognize some templates look familiar to me, such as “She argues…, and I agree because”; however, I often say that “She believe/think…, and I believe/ think”.…
Even Though it was hard, I turned out being pretty good at giving both sides. I also learned that my favorite type of writing is argumentative because I love giving my input, I love telling my side of the story. I could relate to this type of writing because I love arguing with my friends and classmates because I want to have my say in the situation. I want to give my advice to the…
At the beginning of the semester, I viewed myself as a creative writer. After attending this class I realized that there is a lot more that goes into writing an essay, or a research paper, than just creativity alone. I have learned that it is very important to be aware of my strengths and weaknesses in my writing. Taking this class has helped me understand the strengths and weaknesses in my writing skills, and it has given me the opportunity to strengthen the areas in which I was weak. An example of this is that I have become aware of my grammar and spelling errors as the semester progressed.…
I was not an excellent writer at the beginning of the school year, but I can gladly say now that I have inherited more writing skills that I will benefit from in the future. One of those skills is being able to reflect on every angle on my topic to allow me to organize my ideas accurately. This skill is beneficial to learn, for it helped with my report essay to acquire the focus of my paper more clearly. Moreover, this skill helped me write papers in my other classes more easily and efficiently. Likewise, my voice can be read strongly throughout the personal narrative essay, because the passion I had for my topic was an emotional one.…
As we all know, the final Unit assignment is a personal reflection about what I’ve learned and who I am as a writer. In my opinion, only talking about everything I learned can be really a boring thing, I prefer to talk more about myself, my changes throughout the semester. After all, most of people like biographies much more than academic reports. You should know, readers, as a writer, I have an obvious difference from others. I’m an international student, come from China.…
