My Writing As A Conversation

Improved Essays
When it comes to writing any type of writing is entering a conversation. Everything we write is in conversation to something. None of our ideas are new ideas. All these important ideas are ideas that I have learned in less than eight short weeks, thanks to this class. These ideas have drastically improved my writing as a whole. Writing as a conversation was one of the first things we learned as a class, and one major idea that stuck with me. Everything you write is part of a never-ending conversation. It can be a conversation about same sex marriage, and it will never end, as well as the sides that do agree with your point and sides that may not see the same as you do. This idea has fascinated me due to the fact that I have never thought of

Response to “The Transaction” by William Zinsser “The Transaction.” Upon reading its title, I would not have expected William Zinsser’s work to concern writing; monetary or some similar business exchange is what I had anticipated. However, the nature of an exchange is present, though, in the form of information: the exchanging of different ideas (“…he was interested in my answers…I was interested in his answers).” With this, textual evidence supports that Zinsser uses the context of a transaction in order to easily apply a comparison and contrast technique. Moreover, the technique itself provides a prime illustration of how variable writing can be, thus, proving to reflect one’s variable emotions.…

During this semester of English W131, I have experienced both accomplishments and setbacks while learning how to improve my writing skills. Throughout the course, I have learned that writing is not only about how much information is in the paper, but also about how well the writer’s thoughts are expressed throughout the text. Practicing many different styles of writing as I did in the class has helped me tremendously with my delivery in my writing. I believe that this course was one to prepare us for future writing courses with professors we will encounter who will give us feedback that may puzzle us because it will require more work and more thinking. Although I have had difficulty in the class, I do believe that I have learned from my mistakes and that I am finishing the course with stronger writing skills that will help me though the rest of my college career and life.…

It was not until I met Mrs. Barnheiser that my writing technique evolved. Having had the privilege of taking her class, she taught me the importance of using complex sentences and use of imagery and symbolism to make my writing more sophisticated and less basic; an idea that I had never crossed my mind prior to this…

This spring semester in English 211c been a memorable semester, for I learn a great deal of tips to fix my mistake I need to work on in my writing. The papers I did in English 211c made me think outside the box more than my past English courses. The first paper was the Rhetorical Analysis, for one thing it was a rough paper for me write. I struggle with word choice and tone in the paper, as a result causing me to do not so great on the paper. The Rhetorical Analysis paper was about analyzing the rhetorical position and to use rhetorical appeals from several types of sources.…

Wyrick then focuses on how students should view their writing instructor as a sage. He believes that students must understand that the only way to improve their writing is by entering into “dialogue with those who have more experience writing” (5). The form of dialogue some teachers use is simply writing margin notes about the MUGS of a student’s paper, but not the actual content of the paper. While other methods of dialogue, such as conferencing, allow the student to think about the content of his or her paper, which will help him or her to develop a better academic…

Knowing I had to aim for a different audience this time around really affected my writing. When my tone for the original paper was rather informal and even somewhat fun, now I had to write for the APA, a group of people who take this line of work very seriously (as they should). Due to this, I gave my arguments a more serious tone, and I even expanded my vocabulary a bit to give a good impression. If I want the APA to listen to me, I should write in a tone they would use. I was careful about the sources I used for this.…

Besides writing this course aided in improving my discussion techniques by having to devise comprehensive analysis during class and engage in the conversations. Before this class I rarely spoke in lectures but the environment made me feel comfortable enough to do so which was one of the most beneficial aspects of the course for myself. This course identifies the weakness and strength of the students writing skills giving them constructed feedback so they may be able to improve those…

Not only have I learned how to carry out a conversation through discussions, I have also learned how to compose an essay. When I began this class I was sure I knew how to write a paper and make it sound like I knew what I was talking about. Upon completion of my first essay I discovered just how wrong I was. While there were a minimal amount of errors, the errors present made my essay sound as if it had been written by a child. After making the suggested corrections, I saw just how much my essay improved.…

In the past ten weeks, I have become both a more independent writer and a more independent person. I managed to hunt for apartments and sign a lease for the first time, apply for my first job, go on my first interview, and get hired all while managing my academics and social life. My growth as a writer and as a person have come hand in hand this quarter. Neither one a product of the other, but both mutually influential.…

To analyze my writing and compare and contrast effectively I chose three texts that are all written with a persuasive intent. The three texts that I will be using for my analysis include a letter to my oldest sister, a quote that I re-wrote to convince myself to live life more fully and an e-mail to a client, for a company in which I hold employment . In this paper, I will analyze how my writing changed in terms of formality depending on who my audience was; while I still had the intent of persuading the reader accomplish a task. I will also analyze the way my voice changed though the separate texts and how I adapted to my audience. The letter to my sister was written out of frustration as she had left home to stay with her disagreeable…

Written language is a trait known to be only possessed by mankind. I was not an excellent writer at the beginning of the school year, but I can gladly say now that I have inherited more writing skills that I will benefit from in the future. One of those skills is being able to reflect on every angle on my topic to allow me to organize my ideas accurately. This skill is beneficial to learn, for it helped with my report essay to acquire the focus of my paper more clearly. Moreover, this skill helped me write papers in my other classes more easily and efficiently. Likewise, my voice can be read strongly throughout the personal narrative essay, because the passion I had for my topic was an emotional one.…

Ever since I was a little girl, I can recall my parents telling me that I am good with my words. I always considered this a compliment whether it was because of an argument we had, an act of persuasion, them reading a school paper of mine, or even a birthday card. As I sit here and reflect on my experience with writing in my life, I find that I have only truly enjoyed putting my words on paper when they described something that I am passionate for, or heavily interested in. In general, I have thought of writing essays for school as being a largely intimidating task, not because I have trouble with my ideas but because I have trouble organizing my thoughts to flow well. To be honest, when I found out that I would not be able to exempt English…
