Personal Essay: A Career As A Writer

When people pursue writing as a career, often a goal in mind is to have their words reach beyond themselves. Ask one why they write, and it is likely that their response will be as poised as the words that come from their fingertips: to discover, to create, to change the world (as far as people who read go). Their said intentions are almost philanthropic -seeking to serve the public- while their own success seems an unintentional perk. In contrast, my writing habits are comparably selfish, dealing more with personal entertainment and satisfaction than finding and pleasing an audience. Not only has this been a result of my preference for creative writing over academic, but also my tendency to let the speed of my thoughts overtake that of my hand. Despite my previous instructors providing me with a new version of the same paper mold each year, all my writing pieces have mostly taken their own shape based on how …show more content…
To counter the hypocrisy of enjoying these assignments, it should be noted that none of them were truly restrictive with the exception of page limit. With only vague prompts (though some had none at all), I had complete creative control of what and how I wrote. Whether it was a one-man debate on Goldfish crackers versus Cheez-its, a horse 's letter to a fellow stallion about meeting humans, or a lengthy series of rhymes about a sandwich passing through the digestive system, the imaginative nature of these "fun" assignments has brought out more of my character than any research paper or formal essay. Having the freedom to write without consequence or restriction in thought, I can utilize writing as a form of expression. The artist in me is immediately

Whether we know it or not in this modern society we are writers everyday of our lives. These interactions shape not only how we communicate but how we write as well. Personally, I have been shaped by the influence of both other writers I have known and those I have only read the creations of. Those same influences contributed to both my writing style in the classroom and to my identity as a writer. I spent a lot of my childhood with my nose deep in fiction novels at near by libraries.…

Writing is a complex beast on its own, devouring words and thoughts without so much as a thought. Unless manipulated and twisted in such ways, words on paper are virtually unable to capture what ever so easily slips off of the tongue. However, throughout the course of the year, writing in styles similar to what is seen prior has enabled me to capture these thoughts that were ever so elusive before. My thoughts applied in print are no longer a mix of ideas and words in the false hope of a good grade; they are now applied, concise thoughts laid out comprehensively.…

The introduction is very good and it does give you an idea of what the paper is about. The writer mentions his main points through the paper and it engages the reader to the paper. The content is very good and the topic sentences develop each paragraph towards the content of the writers ideas. It just needs a litlle more organization for some of the concepts he is expressing…

Writing Journey Interpretation To begin with after so long of reminiscing about all my compositions, I came to realize that writing is a journey where we all go through stages of obstacles, although this may be true, we also learn new ways to improve our own skills. Under the circumstances we live in one lifetime where time is measured unknowingly to us, therefore it is important for us to realize we just have one chance to learn as much as we can. With this in mind, when it comes to school is an atmosphere we find ourselves doing the same routines but we also learn new ways to deal with certain situations.…

My History As A Writer Throughout my lifetime I have come to love and absolutely hate writing. The reasoning of the assignment or topic has a lot to do with my affinity and disgust. Although learning new things, like writing, was something that I loved doing in elementary school, that all changed when it was daily implemented. As an art form I recently come to love writing down my thoughts, ideas, opinions and stories.…

Describe Yourself As A Writer I’ve come to realize that after years of writing papers, I’m actually a better writer than I give myself credit for. I’ve noticed over time that I’ve advanced in how I structure my paragraphs, however, not so much with my sentences. It’s like making a cake look delicious at first glance with frosting and decorations, but then you take a bite and there 's way too much sugar or it 's overcooked in the inside. My strength in writing includes: using better words to describe what I’m writing about, spelling complex words, creativity, and passion.…
