No kid ever wants to work in fast food. So, when I turned sixteen I promised myself I would never work in a stinky, smelly, fast food joint. So I applied at every “cool” retail shop in the mall. I got one call back but didn’t end up making the cut. Sadly, my worst nightmare came true I had to take the plunge and apply at fast food restaurants. A few days later, I received a call from McDonald’s wanting to set up an interview. I went in for the interview a few days later, and was offered the job on the spot. I have been working at McDonalds for two years, and this is the best job I’ve ever had! McDonalds gives me flexible work hours, and helps me with career development, and benefits. Career development is learning the basic skills I need to strive in for my future. For example, when I started out at McDonalds, I had very little communication skills. I wouldn’t shake the customers hand, I’d constantly look up at the ceiling, and be completely slouched down. Throughout the couple years I’ve shared there I have gained many different communication skills. I now focus on the customer by making eye contact, shaking their hand, and show good body posture with my back straight and shoulders back. Also, it is nice to add in a customer’s name when speaking to them to show them they are remembered and appreciated. Another career development McDonald’s has taught me is problem solving. When a customer comes to me with a problem I must be fast and efficient about fixing the issue. This is where problem solving comes in. I must think on the ball. Moreover, I have gained the best career development skill, teamwork. Teamwork has taught me how to be a team player. It’s about being positive, working with others and going with the flow. Sometimes it isn’t always easy working with others, but I have to have teamwork to achieve goals and business objections. Just these small details makes a huge improvement when it comes to career
