My workplace is at Vellore Woods Dentistry, located at 9565 Weston Rd, Woodbridge, ON L4H 3A5. This institution is owned by a dentist, Dr. R.Goodfellow. He opened this dental office from 2006, wanted to help his clients have satisfying teeth and to help them learn more about their oral hygiene in general. He used to work at Shoreham Dental. It was a small building which is why he moved to create Vellore Woods Dentistry and to expand his company. He is currently learning the most unique and advanced methods of treating dental issues for his patients. He is able to achieve such methods with the help of his 14 employees that made the dental institution boom with business since day one. Since one of his dental assistants is off on maternity, he …show more content…
The philosophy of Dr. G’s office is to mostly focus on TMJ which stands for temporomandibular joint. This is where you would have a clicking of the jaw. It happens from bad postures or if you had stretched your mouth abnormally. They conduct a type of nerve test to know whether the patient’s jaws are strong or weak. TMJ in general is rare in Canada, and most dental insurance companies in Canada do not know what TMJ is. The reason Dr.G has an understanding of this symptom is because he had studied in the States. He had gained knowledge there and brought it to Canada to help his clients fix their problems. Another thing the institution is focusing on, are sleep issues. Dr. G and his hygienists would look at how the teeth are positioned, how their airways are, tongue, etc. They look at these things because 90% of patients complain of having headaches or shifting of their teeth. Especially when it comes to assessments with the patients. Your assessing your patient’s need for dental treatments as well as risk for dental disease and any contra indication for that treatment. I learned that you’re not just assessing your patients but assessing your own ways of how you treat your patients. One dental hygienist I observed started off the exam with a patient by checking the lymph nodes all along the lower jaw, behind the ears, and on the sides of the neck to see if there are any lymph nodes that are swollen. Swollen lymph nodes are signs of inflammation in the mouth.…
