Clarence, I agree with you completely that older generations follow the motto “a hard day’s work for an honest day’s pay”. I work with a few older employees and they work 5x harder than some of the younger employees I work with. I also received a 35 on my EI test which I was not surprised of either. I have a very high work ethic and have very little time for play in my job. I do need to learn to put myself in others shoes; sometimes this is very hard for me to do.…

School is the beginning of our adventure through life. It not only teaches us the mandatory lessons needed but also ones that stick to us throughout life. Whether it was that one extraordinary teacher or the one everyone hated, students would still learn and use it to their advantage. Throughout my high school career, there were many times I collaborated with other students to execute a project. When working on these activities, there were individuals who had different approaches to how things should be done. Ultimately, the overall productivity of the group was determined by the work ethic of those within it. Work ethic is something that is molded during the early years in education, but now, in high school, a person’s principle on how work should be done are easily shown in how they interact in a group setting. Productivity is directly related to the work ethic of a person, and this is shown through the impulsive revolving doors, the apathetic automatic doors, and the meticulous screen doors.…

One of the most important mindsets to have before stepping out on the field hockey field, or any field for that matter, is to understand what it is to persevere. To understand what it means to persevere is to understand that you can find the strength to pick yourself up in the last two minutes of the game, put in your best work, and score the winning goal as the buzzer sounds. I always strive to persevere with every minute left in the game and I carry that same mindset off the field. Perseverance is a core value that I take with me in every aspect of my life whether it be sports, school, or helping others.…

Grit helps because if you have low grades having grit will help you raise them. I experienced grit many times, helping myself raise my grades. Growth mindset also helps academics, having a growth mindset allows students to think out of their comfort zone and tackle tasks that wouldn’t be possible with a fixed mindset. “IQ isn’t the deciding factor between my best and worst student” (Duckworth). This is an example how having the will to get good grades will help you out more than being the smartest kid in the class.…
