Statement of the Goal (about 1 page; 10 points)
A goal that I would like to set for myself for the next year is to lose at least 50 pounds, hopefully more. I will start my weight loss plan after the end of this semester and also the holidays. Like almost every other American in the nation, I plan to start this weight-loss journey January 1st, 2015.
With every good plan you are bound to face some obstacles. These obstacles can either make you or break you; it is up to the individual to overcome them. My personal obstacles include being in a relationship, my tendency for perfectionism, and the convenience for poor food options. The weight you gain from a relationship, especially a new one trumps the good ole freshmen 15. Everything is so exciting

For example, If I am neatly writing something and make a mistake I will throw the entire thing out. As for my weight loss, if I am trying to eat better and I fall of the bandwagon and eat something unhealthy, I will think the day is ruined and will go back to my old way of eating and lack of exercising. It is extremely debilitating for a weight loss regiment and another huge obstacle I will have to overcome. Lastly, another obstacle I will face is the convenience of poor options in my life. I live in the 5 boroughs; amazing food is around every corner. Just walking to class, it is often very difficult not to stop for Starbucks or a snack from Duane Reed. I love to cook but after a long day it is much easier to order in take out or walk to all the places to eat in Forest Hills. Even when I go food shopping all of the food that is unhealthy is much cheaper than the food I should be eating. When I start to try and become healthier it will be so hard to overcome this obstacle because I come face to face with it every second of the day. Even with these three obstacles I am still extremely confident in myself that I can overcome them and reach my goal of losing 50 pounds.

Classes such as Scitech gave me an understanding of what engineers do which provided me with a great deal of interest. Other clubs such as Science Olympiad and TEAMS have also given me experiences that have fostered this interest in engineering with competitions and processes of creating something.…

Just because I do great work one day in balancing my life doesn’t mean that the next day will be the same. Whenever an event, I don’t agree with intervenes in my life, I most definitely have a tantrum. I want to give up and say forget it. But, I reflect on what my permanent outcome could be if I quit and realize it’s just a little hiccup. My Personal Goal Statement Every day I wake up, I ask myself how I can make a difference. This question has helped shape my personal values and principles and directed my path into the nursing field. Growing up in West Africa and witnessing firsthand the sufferings and impoverishment of the people around me, I developed a sense of compassion and willingness to make a difference and help alleviate their sufferings and put a smile on their faces. Healthcare delivery and poverty are two major underlying factors in the challenges faced in Africa, thus, when I got an opportunity to come into the United States, it was my golden ticket to finally give back to the community and make a difference. This led me into the nursing field; I started out as a Certified Nurse Assistant.…

I had the biggest educational barrier that I faced throughout my junior year. This barrier was having the hardest AP class, AP Biology. Since I was very new to this educational system it was very hard for me to cope up with all my classes even though it was just one AP class. At first, I did not know what AP was and I took it because I told my counselor that Biology was going to be my major in college and so she gave me this class which I willingly accepted. After getting into that class I found out that it was a college level class.…

Two developmental milestones that I have faced during my twenty-two years of life, thus far, are beginning college and ending college. Starting college in particular was a developmental milestone because it was different than anything I have ever experienced and for my family to experience as well. I am the first generation in my family to attend college. Both of my parents went straight into the work force after they graduated high school, and were not encouraged by their parents to attend college. I have two older siblings who decided not to attend college, because they wanted to go straight into the work force, and long term did not want to have to worry about paying back student loans.…
