My Weaknesses In Joshua Mohr's Memoir

I leave this quarter more aware of my weaknesses than I started. However, I believe that I am also more prepared to address them on a personal level than I was three months ago. I continue to lack follow-through. My desk is littered with sticky notes and unfinished drafts. I believe that the solution to this is to carve a space in my day, every day, for writing creative work. I have made plans to adjust my schedule to address this, and while it will not go into effect until fall quarter, I am starting small by setting my alarm an hour early to write before I go to the gym.
Perhaps my most troubling creative weakness, one that has become apparent over the preceding months, is that I am frequently, factually wrong, sometimes even when I think that I am speaking from a subjective place. He writes about robbing liquor stores and beating men up without sounding like he thinks he’s though and cool. He describes these types of experiences with humor and humility, and over the course of the next few months I intend to carefully reread Sirens to see exactly how he is doing it. Of course, I need to keep my eyes peeled for other writers who are talking about dark and/or savory subjects and notice what techniques they are using to do it well. The other alternative, and one that may be the better and more successful option, would be to move entirely away from personal essay and memoir. My academic writing is, in general, far stronger than my creative work, and if I apply creative craft techniques to academic subjects, I may be able to avoid all the above-named issues. I treat my academic subject with far more care, I believe.
I need to proofread with more zest. I miss opportunities because of sloppy proofreading. I used a grammar-checker program for my undergrad, and I think I need to drag it back out. I refuse to be limited by
