My Volunteer Experience: Non-Profit Private Agency

Decent Essays
This week was about our volunteer experience and that is what I would like to talk about in my journal. I think that I went a bit non-traditional with doing volunteer cooking and cleaning for Malone’s indigent clients. I really did enjoy it though. My boss said he would rather me spend time within our company doing volunteer work than going elsewhere during business hours. I do not have the opportunity to do anything on weekends with my children being home and my husband having had a recent surgery. I was happy to have the opportunity at my place of business. I was reading in our book about the different types of health care agencies and the type I did my volunteer work for is a for-profit private Agency (Black, 2014). It is a private

    - I am in a Dean List every semester since I enrolled at Kellogg Community College. - I serve Youth Treasurer in our Church, and I have learned many things from that experience including the value of teamwork and time management. For example, when we did fundraising for our youth branch, we (youth members) worked together as a team and be able to finish our task easily. And, although my schedule was very tight with homework and family job, I managed my time and maintained a very good grade point…

I am currently volunteering at Asante Three Rivers Medical Center in Grants Pass. The department that I started volunteering at is the Family Birthing Center. Some of the roles that we as volunteers perform include keeping the main window and door secure. It is highly important to keep the whole department safe and for security reasons we need to be aware who comes and goes out of the department.…

One of the agencies that I had the opportunity of observing this semester was Clara Maass Medical Center, located in Belleville, NJ. The mission statement of this facility is to support the Medical Center’s promise to deliver high quality, compassionate healthcare, and to improve the health and well-being of the communities it serves. The medical center serves the local community with their medical needs and emergencies. The center has several departments, including same day surgery which is where I spend most of my time.…

Being a Peace Corps Volunteer would be an incredible opportunity that I would be honored to take part in. I want to serve as a Peace Corps Volunteer because I want to spread my passion for learning and teaching English, and give people the gift of education in order to empower them and allow them to experience more avenues of life. As a long time English major, I have come to know that there is a great strength that comes with writing. I have seen fellow students move people with their words, and strongly communicate their ideas and having the ability to teach students these skills fills me with a profound joy. Moreover, the Peace Corps presents an opportunity to experience everything I love in life: traveling, experiencing and interacting…

Working at the Salvation Army requires an eye for detail, a sense of organization, working well with others and more. Working there is not just accepting donations and throwing them in some corner until a truck comes and takes the donations on to the next stop like many may think when the name Salvation Army comes up. I worked at a branch of the Salvation Army in Hamburg, PA and the facility there included a store for the community. I was asked to bring in donations from the designed place just outside the store and sometimes even from the cars of donators depending on the size of the donations. I would sort through them and depending on the conditions they were in would either save, tag, price and hang the clothing.…

One interest I might purse is volunteering at non-profit organizations that are geared toward a good cause. I can do this by researching different non-profits, and finding ways to volunteer or donate. I would purse this interest because I believe non-profits are very important organizations that make a huge difference in one’s life, whether it be the person they are helping or the person giving the help. Eventually, I would like to start my own non-profit organization, targeted toward children in need.…

My healthcare volunteering experience began in high school when I started volunteering at Baylor Hospital in Grapevine, Texas. There I was assigned papers and files to sort and I occasionally got to shadow various doctors. This went on for a month after I graduated high school and before I started college. In winter of 2014 and 2016, I spent one month in India with my uncle. He is a cardiologist who let me shadow him in his clinic and hospital.…

Volunteering One day, I walked to my friends house. Her mom had just had a baby boy. Just by looking at her, I could tell she was exhausted. So I offered to babysit the baby, so she wouldn’t have to worry about when her baby's diaper needed to be changed, or when he needed to be fed. She said I didn’t have to, but she knew I had a baby brother.…

If only there would have been more people volunteering, then so much more people could have been helped. And if more people can be help, then the suffering on earth can be ease. The big problem is that everyone is so busy with their personal life that they forget about the importance of helping others. A positive aspect I saw was that those who were already volunteering were really dedicated and kind hearted. I believe they are making a big impact on every person they touched and made it a task to spread their kindness.…

We asked to work in the resale shop, but were told we would need more training to work hands-on with the customers, and that the real help was needed where we were. I was able to see some of the types of people that were in the resale shop as we walked to and from different parts of the building, as well as the types of cars they drove as I left at the end of my shift. In class we learned about a lot of different topics that tied in to my volunteering experience, and I’ll try to touch on each of them. For example, in class we learned about poverty in major cities (such as Indianapolis) being a very prevalent problem, and I was able to see inner city poverty first hand at the food pantry.…

How I got to view the world through the eyes of others through my volunteer experiences. When you get to do that and learn something new but other ways to help you are truly outstanding. There are so many things that first attracted me to volunteering.
