My Vocabulary Analysis

Improved Essays
Although it has been a short time, I have learned so much about writing. This class has prepared me to better express myself in writing. Not only have I learned how to put my thoughts on paper with ease, but I have grown my understanding in the mechanics of it all. We also did many mini-lessons that were thoroughly helpful to my writing adventures. Writing has not always been my strong suite, but now I am more prepared than ever to go out into college and write to the best of my abilities. One thing that has grown within my writing repertoire this semester is vocabulary. I have realized that I used to use copious amounts of words; it made my paragraphs in the essays seem redundant. I’m not sure that we did any mini lesson on vocabulary, but I went on a trek myself to find new words that I could fit into my personal dictionary. Along with bigger words like photosynthesis, my understanding of my voice in writing has expanded. …show more content…
The great thing is I know how to utilize it now. It comes with the zany words I use, or the sharp (and sometimes brutal) wisdom that I give from time to time. My voice is the only thing I have got to differentiate between everyone else, and I should keep it that way. Although Voice is one of the most important items I have learned, it hasn’t been the swiftest change; the use of transitions has been the most prominent. Transitions are very peculiar; I try to use them but they just don’t sound right. Through this college composition class I have learned how to better understand where transitions go. Even though I have been to taught by a wonderful teacher, I am not the best writer when it comes to transitions.
I have learned so much, and I hope I can keep all of in my brain. My understanding has grown to where I am more prepared for college. Thank you for teaching this class, and being there for us

It's crazy how this semester ended so fast. I was in total shock when I heard the semester was ending; it seemed like the first day of class was yesterday, I can remember everything from that day, its insane. Throughout the whole semester, Professor Keohane has challenged us to better writers and critical thinkers. I accepted the challenge, and feel that I've become a better writer and critical thinking because of all the new strategies Professor Keohane has taught me. Of course, I still have some weakness in my writing, but I know throughout my time at Montclair State University I will overcome theses weaknesses.…

I started my journey through writing this year a bundle of nerves and a stomach full of coffee. This is my first year taking an advanced English course, but I was determined to do well. There has been no sleeping in class or slacking off this year, I’m lucky enough to take a college course a year early and at a better price, and I’m not going to waste it. I’ve learned a lot this semester, including but not limited to: identifying how exactly the author’s purpose and audience determines effective writing, developing pieces of writing though a process of planning, revising, and drafting, compose an organized essay with clear points and main ideas, used appropriate tone and formality, critiqued writing, and finally how to grasp the MLA format. My writing has improved through the concepts I have learned this semester.…

Vocabulary acquisition is one of the largest elements in reading success. There are two types of vocabulary a student must acquire in order to become a successful reader: content and high frequency. Content vocabulary refers to words that have a specific meaning. These words can act as nouns, verbs, adjectives, or adverbs. High frequency words do not carry a specific meaning but occur the most in the English language (Houghton Mifflin Publishing Company, 2013).…
