My Vocabulary Analysis

Improved Essays
I struggled writing my critique essay. I had to overcome the nerves of writing my first essay of my college career. So the problems I had are those expected of a first time experience. I had problems with several different elements of the essay. I struggled with my ideas, editing, and my vocabulary. Once I understood what was expected in a literacy narrative, I began to gather my ideas. Many stories came to my mind that I could have wrote about. I thought about my mother reading to me when I was very young. I thought about me hating journals in the seventh grade. Then, my idea of the accelerated reading program came to me. It fit my criteria. This topic gave me the needed length and an interesting story. Once I began writing this story, I

Purpose I am a first year middle school, special education teacher. I am currently getting my masters in Literacy. In my self-contained classroom many of my students struggle with aspects of literacy in all subject areas, which affects their ability to learn the content. In learning about Robert Marzano’s six steps for teaching vocabulary instruction in my literacy class, I wanted to focus on improving my student’s vocabularies. Currently, my students give up when they see a word that do not know or guess at random, but do not check the sentence to see if the word makes sense.…

Beginning from grade school through middle and high school, we learn how to read and write as we grow. More importantly, we learn how to grab and hold onto many things; the illusions that we aim to achieve, called dreams. The drive to push and better yourself to grasp onto unexpected possibilities, we call opportunities. The belief and confidence that you hold within you, we call faith. Independence as your hope, in all experiences that you’ll be able to make something towards your future.…

This whole chapter was very interesting. I was kind of saddened in a way to read about so many ways to self destruct. I believe that in this part of the world (the west) we have low standards about how to love our selves, how to love our bodies and to treat our bodies like a temple. In our text book on page 301 there is a table (10-3) that shows the risks and consequences of drug misuse. Regardless of the type of drug that is being abused and or misused there are plenty of consequences and damage to the body.…

A very familiar concept that Burcaw pointed out is the recommendation of objects from the general public. I often have conversations with visitors at NMAAHC who express their opinions and recommendations on what should and should not be in the museum. Additionally, the debate of what qualifies as a museum and what does not is one I often encounter. In regard to useful information, the definitions he gives not only provide the proper museum vocabulary it too gives insight on how to define a museum which can be used to remove the ambiguity to what qualifies as a museum. In regard to new information, I noticed the unfamiliar acronym UNESCO.…

In order to write a Literacy Narrative, you must first choose one specific moment or topic that you think is very significant to you or interest you. The first thing I do when it comes to writing is that I make my own space. I make sure I stay in a quiet room where I am able to think, focus, and concentrate on my writing. Then I start recapping my moments, and just start writing whatever comes to my mind to express my words and thoughts through writing. After a while, I take a few breaks in between where I get myself a little snack or a drink and then later on, I start working on my paper.…

Understanding the rhetorical situation is essential to actively engaging and creating a piece of work. A rhetorical analysis of any text demands that we as readers see the text as having been composed for a particular purpose. In “My Literacy Journey” essay, improvement as a writer and reader was greatly achieved by delivering a vivid picture of how I gained the ability to read and write, as well as how I put those skills to work to shape my own life. To accurately grasp the process and understand the rhetorical situation that helped contribute to my writing, I will focus on reflecting and analyzing the exigence, context, constraints, and audience, shedding light on why this piece of writing took the shape that it did.…

I find this assignment to be challenging because it is my first time reviewing a textbook with no experience teaching reading in a classroom. I selected the National Geographic Reading & Vocabulary Focus 1 textbook because I was drawn to the beautiful and vibrant National Geographic images and the rich global content. One of the strengths of this textbook is the use of vibrant and real-world images. Each unit opens with a stunning National Geographic image that taps into the students’ background about the world (top-down models) and three questions about the image. The image serves as a preview to the unit content.…

Literacy Narrative For weeks I spent multiple hours continuously listening to songs of different genres trying to find one that meant a lot to me. Well I continued to have lingering thoughts of this being my last choir concert, I finally came across a song that really stood out to me. The lyrics really did not relate to how my life tended to be, so the next day I went to school to ask my choir instructor if I could possibly transform the lyrics of the song so it would be more personal to my father and I. Once I got the approval from my teacher, it took quite some time to replace the unwanted lyrics in the song with words that would be more meaningful to me.…

Out of all the people I met, there used to be only one person who did not change his or her opinion about me once they learned what type of community I self-identify to be a part of. If his or her opinions had an encouraging effect on me, then I usually stay in contact with those people. The people you are with can affect what atmosphere you live in whether it is a calm, friendly air or a dreadful, tense air. However, in contrast, those who had a harmful effect on me they are most likely the ones who mock me in the past. In fact, I will be honest the word itself does have a negative stigma around it.…

My journey with literacy has been a part of my life and began before I even entered school. During my early days you would say I was a “repeater”. I repeated things that I would hear from my parents and people that were around me all the time. Some of them were good to say and some not so good to say. My parents always sat down and read to me.…

Most of these literacy narratives are going to be about how most of these students hated reading and writing, but explained a big creative story of how they learned to love it and now live and breathe writing. That's not me. Ever since I was little i've never been very good at writing or reading. When I was younger my Grandparents and Mom always made up fiction stories rather than reading them. Which persuaded me to talk more and read less.…

My First Impression When contemplating a student into a prestigious college, a college administrator closely inquires the student’s college essay. This essay often embodies the student’s interests and abilities while trying to reflect themselves in the best possible light. Although the student’s essay may encompass details about themselves positively, some essays reflect negative attributes as well. The positive qualities about one’s self are easy to list incontestably, but often difficult to include a sufficient amount of insight. In addition to including insight, it is often forgotten to spend an excessive amount of time on proofreading and appropriating a paper.…
