In Q. 57, A.5, Aquinas discusses the knowledge of angels and states that angels are only able to know what God allows them to know: “yet so that the higher angels beholding the Divine wisdom more clearly, learn more and deeper mysteries in the vision of God, which mysteries they communicate to the lower angels by enlightening them. Some of these mysteries they knew from the very beginning of their creation; others they are taught afterwards, as befits their ministrations”. This ties in really well with a few lines from Canto 28: “so rapidly do they follow their bonds, in order to resemble the point as much as they can, and they can to the degree that they are raised to see” (p. 563, lines 100-102). Angels desire to resemble God or be with Him as much as they can, but it is all dependent on God’s will.…
My husband, our four children, and I visited the El Rodeo in Mooresville, Indiana on April 15, 2017. We arrived around one in the afternoon and were surprised to find that the customers were few and far between. We were seated immediately, and our server, Juan, was at our table within seconds. He brought with him three baskets of chips and three bowls of salsa. Our food arrived at our table about ten minutes after we ordered.…
During the years of 1876 to 1911, Porfirian Mexico launched into a period of modernization. In William Beezley’s work Judas at the Jockey Club, he addresses how this modernization initiated both social and economic tension between the small percentage of elites and impoverished masses and resulted in cultural resistance. According to Beezley, Mexico was bewitched under what he describes as “Porfirian persuasion,” and under this ideology the state was determined to establish ideas of efficiency and progress. The basis of these ideals came from the influences of the United States and Europe.…

New York City locals and tourists recognize Spanish Harlem as Manhattan’s heavily Latino-influenced neighborhood. For the reason that Latino culture in New York City was established with Latin American migration to the area. Conversely, Latino culture in Tucson, Arizona is ingrained, yet merely suppressed by Anglo American influence. Despite the differences in situations, there is one grand similarity between both communities: The Latin culture is proudly unveiled.…
I identify myself with Latino/Hispanic cultural group. The most important characteristics of my culture are: the language, the festivities, food, the relationship with our elders, the way we spend time at work, and the public transportation among others. For example, I speak Spanish as my primary language, but I learned English since I live in this city. We, celebrate many festivities, Carnival, is a festivity in which we thank the earth for all resources it gives us, and we like to decorate the houses with balloons, flowers, paper decorations, and also we throw alcohol to the corners to stop the bad luck. In my culture we don’t eat tortillas, but we cook the most delicious “humintas,” a kind of “tamal” made of fresh ground corn, mixed with…
Despite Hispanics being the largest minority group in the Unites States, issues plaguing Hispanic communities far too often do not get much attention in the academia. And although environmental injustices affect the general minority population, Hispanic communities are further disadvantaged because their cries for help are repeatedly silenced by either language barriers, deportations fears, or just an overall of lack awareness. Unfortunately, there is an obvious gap between environmentalist activist and the communities that they themselves want to help. This is because mainstream environmentalism 's perception of diversity has a predominant focus on Black communities.…
My family is like many Hispanic families that live in Laredo, Texas. We celebrate with cookouts or “carne asadas” instead of going to restaurant to have a nice dinner. We are a loud family of 8 that not always lived in Texas. Before I was even born, both my mother and father lives in Nuevo Laredo, Tamalupias in Mexico. Like many parents at that time, my parents would frequently travel to Laredo, Texas.…
Men often dress as Mexican cowboys or charros and wear wide-brimmed sombreros. Men also often wear jackets that are tailored and pants that have silver and shiny buttons. Women often will dress in china poblana outfits, which includes a white shirt and a red flaring skirt with sequins on the skirt. (Englekirk & Marín, 2014) Daily cuisine for Mexican Americans may consist of dishes that are prepared with tomato-based sauces that are flavored by many different chilies, spices or herbs, such as cumin and cilantro. Meats such as pork, beef and chicken are generally served with rice, beans and corn tortillas.…

I’m Mexican, I was born in Mexico but then brought over here to the US when I was around 3 years old. My whole family was born in Mexico and I’m the youngest child which means that all of my brothers and sister grew up for most of their childhood in Mexico and my oldest sister even got married over there. We eventually all moved over here and that resulted in our family being very culturally connected with Mexico’s culture. My mother is a strong believer in continuing cultural traditions even if we are in a different place. So she made sure we always knew a lot about where we came from or special traditions that were done in Mexico.…
As a Mexican American, I have learned many of the traditions and customs of the Mexican culture. One tradition, I have learned as a member of the Mexican community is called a dicho. Dichos or “sayings” as I like to define the term, is a Spanish term used to describe a proverb. A proverb is a short metaphorical statement that a culture constantly uses.…
