My Reflection On Germantown Students

Great Essays
This semester has been a real eye opener for me. I have been exposed to many opportunities to grow. I have had the opportunity to observe in three different schools. I began teaching English to ninth and tenth graders two weeks ago. It has been my pleasure to meet and work with several well-respected seasoned teachers through out the semester. They have provided me with much needed advice, help, love and redirection. I have had several eye opening moments related to “myself” as a teacher and my ideas of students. As a teacher in training I have observed some great classrooms this semester. In some of the past classes that I observed the teacher seemed tired or burnt out. This semester it was a priority of mine to visit diverse classrooms …show more content…
The students are held to a certain academic level and have no problem being challenged or reaching that level. It was refreshing to see a classroom where students were engaged in grade and age appropriate task. In the past I have wrote papers about students at another school that seems to have a high level of students who are not performing on grade level. At Germantown Friends the lesson that I learned was on the importance of requiring academic excellence from all students. I will probably not teach at a school as esteemed as this school. However, the students that I will teach will need to be just as prepared for the next phase as these students. One way that I can help ensure that they are prepared is by always challenging them. If a set the bar high hopefully students will aspire to reach it. In my opinion it is Burke that said it best, “effective instruction teaches students the essential skills and knowledge they need to answer the questions and solve the problems we all encounter in personal and professional lives”. In one of the classes that I observed students sit in four groups of about 5 or 6 students at all times. Each group performs different task while rotating around the four tables. The teacher sits at one table and when they rotate to her she engages the students in the skill checking for mastery or students who need help understanding. At each table students was required to practice the same concept in different ways.
At Pickett Mastery, I observed a personal friend of mine who teachers AP English to eleventh and twelfth grade students. It was interesting to see someone who I have watched evolve as a teacher. I have known her for many years even before she became a teacher. I understand the personal experiences and struggles that have paved the way for her to get to this point in her teaching career. The lesson that I learned from her was to make sure that each lesson includes a transferable skill. Each lesson should include a skill or a strategy that students can transfer to other areas or

It's crazy how this semester ended so fast. I was in total shock when I heard the semester was ending; it seemed like the first day of class was yesterday, I can remember everything from that day, its insane. Throughout the whole semester, Professor Keohane has challenged us to better writers and critical thinkers. I accepted the challenge, and feel that I've become a better writer and critical thinking because of all the new strategies Professor Keohane has taught me. Of course, I still have some weakness in my writing, but I know throughout my time at Montclair State University I will overcome theses weaknesses.…

Also I did not view any difficulties within the classrooms. If this was confusion they students would ask and it would be answered. I found that as long as students behaved, the day went well and as planned and both student and teacher were content. The teachers I observed provided a welcoming, safe, and playful environment. All of the teachers except one had posters, pictures, drawings... etc.…

Because of the upcoming science STTAR, my observation of Ms. de la Fuente’s fifth grade class this week was a little different than usual. The teachers switched classes from lunch until one thirty to better prepare the students for the test. In this way, they would learn the information through different teaching styles. This week’s task was about advice on the teaching profession. Some good advice was to stay organized and keep the students engaged.…

Virginia State has been my number school of choice since I was a junior in high school, so when I got accepted I was in pure disbelief. At the beginning the semester, I was terrified, it had been ten years since I have been in high school, and now finally I was enrolled in college courses. I tried to my best to recall everything I had learned in my time in high school, but I knew throughout the semester it would be an uphill battle. Now with the semester coming to end, I have realized that I have come out the other end with better understanding and knowledge with English Composition that I know will help further succeed in many aspects of my life and school. First and foremost English Composition was by far my favorite class, it renewed my love for writing, and I learned quite a lot. I always knew I had the “bones” to be a great writer, but with lessons like how to write a literacy narrative, learning the process of brainstorming, and peer review I was able to put the “meat” on bones.…

Although teaching is a field that is extremely rewarding, it also comes with its share of challenges. These challenges can be overcome, however, if the teacher believes in their students ability to learn, and is able to inspire and motivate them. The teacher can accomplish this task through motivating the students through lessons, tests, and a positive classroom environment. If the teacher is fully committed to their student’s best interests, the classroom will ultimately succeed, even if there are challenges along the way.…

As a child I was different, I waited for the weekends to be over, since once the weekdays started I entered my favorite environment, the classroom. For my entire life I have wanted to be a teacher, I feel the order and success that the classroom promotes. My teachers taught me more than basic education, they taught me that it is a teachers role to help students learn to live in the real world, and obey the system that is put there for their benefit. My passion exploded when I was adopted by the vice-principle of the local middle school. I have been blessed to spend time with him and see the interworking’s of a school, and how they impact children’s lives in ways nobody else can do.…

First semester has concluded, and I am happy enough with the results that I have obtained. I took classes that changed the destiny of my college exploration, courses that challenged me (but made me realize that I am not as good as I thought I would in Germanic languages), courses that developed and enhanced my writings skills, such as the University Writing Seminar, which was a complex, but rewarding course, and courses, which I somehow enjoyed, but taught me that English is not predestinated to become one of my majors. Just when I finished writing my last essays for the semester it occurred to me, am I getting better at this. My UWS 's instructor told me that he liked my first draft of my research essay--this was the first compliment I had…
