From a very young age I was taught that a man was never wrong. I never fully understood the detrimental affect abuse had on a person because my grandmother would always wash it off during every shower she took, scrubbing the beatings and rinsing the verbal abuse my grandfather meticulously delivered to her. Growing up in a dysfunctional household made me susceptible to the phenomenon called a toxic relationship. If ever asked today about my views on an abusive and controlling relationship, I’d talk about my recent experience and how it affected me and changed my views on relationships as well as my past experience growing up in an environment where abuse and obsession was acceptable.
Love is something everyone craves, no matter how young or how old you are. When I first “fell in love”, I became infatuated with this idea that nothing was going to ruin it, and I was going to be with him forever. I met Julian my sophomore year of high school. He was mysterious and I liked it, I was used to the same predictable guys entering my life, a change seemed good. We dated for a couple of months and things began to gradually get worst.
