From a very young age I was taught that a man was never wrong. I never fully understood the detrimental affect abuse had on a person because my grandmother would always wash it off during every shower she took, scrubbing the beatings and rinsing the verbal abuse my grandfather meticulously delivered to her. You sit here and you create your perfect life with that special someone in your head, and you believe that they are everything you ever wanted and more, but when reality sets in and you begin to see people’s true colors you start to blame them for your gradually breaking heart. I cannot say I regret this relationship. Because of my experience with him, I became more aware of the people I surround myself with as well as realized my weaknesses when it came to relationships. To me, relationships are pointless. All you are ever going to need is yourself. Why have someone come into your life, if they are eventually going to hurt you. I understand that people must put themselves out there, and loneliness is a terrible feeling, but nothing is worse than not feeling good enough for the person that you thought felt you were everything and beyond to …show more content…
If I was standing in front of myself 2 years ago, id slap the living hell out of myself because the entire situation could have been avoided if I were matured a bit more. I know now that I will never place myself in a predicament where I’m not in control of myself and my actions. Knowing now that I wasn’t in love with him opened up my mind to dating again. Relationships were completely ruined for me, and it took a couple of years of therapy to recover from the damage that he caused me.
In the end, a relationship can go one of two ways. You either marry that person and stay together forever, or you break up and deal with having to mend your heart. Looking at small details of that other person and how they react in social settings can tell you a lot about what type of person they are. Feelings can be very blinding.
