This classroom’s setup had a very open setting. There were colorful posters, a “reading rug”, moveable furniture, and more. Students didn't have assigned seating, there were two very big tables with chairs in the classroom, and all the students were sitting in close proximity to each other. This setup evoked students to be social with one other. In this set up interaction between students was supported, and in progressivism interaction is highly valued within a classroom. Social life is taught within this setting at a young age, which is advocated in progressivism. Here we see the social life taught at home be implemented into the students community (school). This student can now expand their social skills due to interaction with their peers, and use their home social learning as a basis to start. Every english class would dedicate 2 days a week to this workshop. During these workshops students were given about an hour to write about subjects of their interest and then join as a group and read their peers creative writing and edit it. This is connected to progressivism because these workshops allow students to express their feelings, emotions, interest, and desires through their writing. This also allows students to get insight of their peers thoughts and perceptions, and allows for social interaction, which expands students learning in several ways. Students can develop new attitudes, and new interests through reading their peers work. Also, students are required to analyze and develop new ideas or changes their peer can implement into their creative writing. Overall, there are many beneficial aspects to creative writing workshops that lead my philosophy of education to be progressivism. These experiences were beneficial and positive as a student, and demonstrate progressivistic views of education, so due to this my philosophy of education has been shaped to be progressivism. The five examples I gave from my education, contain many aspects of progressivism within education as explained earlier. All of these examples were correlated with a positive experience.
