Personal Narrative Essay: My Experience In Elementary School

Decent Essays
I have been writing since I can remember being in Elementary School. Now that I’ve reached college that it’s become easy for me to write papers and short essays in general or about what is going on in my life. Writing gives me a style of memory and understanding that gets me by. My view of writing at first was something just as simple as putting five to six words together and making it a sentence that made sense, but as I have taken more classes, I concluded that there is way more to writing than what I pictured it to be. English hasn’t been my most exciting subject, but I have someone managed to get by with a understanding on what is required. In this essay, I will discuss the experiences I’ve been through up until now. Then I will later go …show more content…
When I first started in elementary I was just writing sentences using five to six words, but as I kept going I am now writing papers that are anywhere from five to six pages. I always had a curiosity on why we never learned much in elementary, but as I got older my curiosity was answered. Being in elementary was a start on small words that had eventually lead me to writing big papers. After eventually going to High School I realized how important writing a paper was and the benefits that came from it. Upon entering High School every paper I had to write was required to be no less than 2 pages. After completing High School, I went on to college in which now I am taking more writing classes. Starting English classes in College has been an eye opener and a big challenge. Reflecting on my writing I knew that once I entered college there would be way more requires that needed to be added to a paper than just what I had previously done for example I have to read through the syllabus and look for what the requirements are to meet in order to complete a paper. An example of a paper I just did was having to explain was a step by step dish on how to make tacos. After looking at what had to be in that paper I knew it would be easy to complete until I came across it being MLA or APA. I became lost even when looking at the examples so I had to confide in my professor to go more in depth as to what this …show more content…
After all the late nights and long papers, I’ve somehow made it to my last and final English class. My only incentive is that I’m taking it online and I have time to plan and get my materials gathered. However, with I have a few struggles and downfalls which are creating a work cited, citations, and thesis. When it comes to the thesis I never knew this existed and always had trouble with creating one. I would spend hours at looking at examples and others papers and still never understood what it’s about or how it ties into a paper. Now that I’m taking my final class I now understand that it is the eye catcher sentence that makes the readers want to read more of what the paper is about. Another downfall was my citations and work cited page. I’ve always had trouble on how resources should be cited at the end of a sentence or paragraph. My struggle is not citing the source with the correct resource, which I tend to misconstrue quotes and books the wrong way. Than I must take the citations and put them on a work cited page in order. This becomes a struggle because there’s a certain way the page must be set up but I always tend to screw it up even with all my sources being noted. There is this quote from Camerin, Nairn, and Higgins they state that “They have not yet developed a more experienced writer 's understanding of writing or ability to deal with

From my personal experience, when I was in elementary school I remember my teacher would let us sit on yoga ball it always helped me concentrate and it helped me when I was really active because I could not move around, it will make me fall if I move around. I like the idea of standing desks because I prefer standing a lot but when I need to I could sit down on the tool, but I could still move my legs around and be somewhat active. So if one day you're feeling antsy you can just stand. Also I think if your tired it could help you stay awake. Mark Benden also states that sitting desk can cause kids to be obese, he also says that too much sitting is bad for your health.…

Throughout the first semester of College Composition, I wrestled with three essays, all differing in format and content. The first was a narrative that reflected our educational experience. After this came an analysis of a visual text, followed by a research paper. The narrative was the easiest to write; however, I acquired important skills for writing the other two, which were in a less familiar format. With the three essays, I learned about my own writing skills and habits concerning development and critical thinking, time management, and organization.…

I moved from Texas to North Dakota, where seventh grade was the first year of middle school. I took on those same fears and hopes that I had faced before, but in an unfamiliar place where I had no one except for family to give me support. I tried a lot of new things that year, mainly wrestling.…

For the first five years of elementary school, I attended the small school located at the back of our church’s property. Enrollment ranged from about 10-15 students in 1st through 8th grade. The last three years of my grade school experience were spent attending Lodi Seventh-day Adventist Elementary. This school went from kindergarten to 8th grade and fed into Lodi Academy, so in all, kindergarten through 12th grade! I came from a small, two-room school, and seeing as I was not very accustomed to being with such a large body of students, suddenly becoming immersed in a class with more students than that of my entire old school was definitely intriguing!…

When I started writing this journal, every class I had ever learned about English writing shuffled through my mind like flashcards. From a very early age, I think, could well be the grade of 7th or 8th, I naturally started writing in English. At the beginning of my English writing experience, I read the books chosen by my English teacher carefully, and I tried to generate all the sentences precisely because I deserved to learn more about a different language. I thought I was going to improve my writing skills unceasingly by keeping in pace with my classmates. However, unfortunately, when I went to my high school, everything started to alter dramatically.…
