I grew up thinking that when you bought your first house and settled down in suburbia that you had achieved this dream. As I grew up my view of the dream expanded to include more than just superficial things. Ultimately my American dream is to be happy with my career and to love what i do, as well as to be financially stable. As I became older I knew that the key to achieving my dream was through higher education. That was a part of my mom’s dream as well, for her children to go to college and be able to live out their dreams. I believe that for most people being financially stable is one of the most important aspects of the American dream. Without a financially stable background you cannot attain the other parts, such as owning a home, car, or other material things. My view on the house with a white picket fence has become less and less desirable. As an adult I have decided that I do not to own a home, and instead travel the world. I know that for me to achieve my dream I must complete my higher education. With my degree in teaching I will be able to travel the world and teach English in other countries. My dream is something that almost seems to be the complete opposite of my mother’s dream. She wanted nothing more than to come to the United States, and now as an adult I want nothing more than to leave.
