My Vacation Experience

Decent Essays
Most people’s vacation memories are pleasant and exciting, however, that once was not the case for me. During July in 2011, my family decided to go to St. Louis, Missouri for vacation. We had gone to St. Louis before, but this time my family wanted to try something new. We agreed upon going to Six Flags. I was 10 at the time and, not surprisingly, had no previous experience with any other amusement parks. I innocently went along with the idea, figuring “What's the worse that could happen?” However, little did I know that was my first mistake.
I started out wandering aimlessly behind my family. My dad and my sister ran to the nearest roller coasters to fuel their adrenaline while I was stuck around the outskirts of everyone. I would wait for thirty minutes or so at a time, only for them to get off and immediately switch to another ride. For the most part, this is how I spent my time save for one or two stops for food. I had frozen lemonade and lunch which consisted of a small cheese pizza.

It was tall and intimidating. Sure, there were plenty of other rides that would tower over this one, but I saw no difference. I don't recall the name; however, I do remember that it was sponsored by Kraft to advertise their new string cheese. There seemed to be an infinite number of twists, turns, and loops, guaranteed to make anyone disoriented. I heard screams and screeches coming from above me, guaranteed to make any 10 year old frightened. Everything was already adding up to be an unpleasant situation. My dad and sister waited in the long, winding line. I made my way to a nearby bench so I could sit and wait until something abruptly stopped me. It was my dad. At first, it was only a suggestion to get on the ride. Then, it transformed into blatant harassment. He tried persuading me and he tried negotiating with me. He put all of his might into convincing me to step into that obvious death

I remember the gut wrenching feeling in my stomach as my best friend and I approached the tallest and fastest roller coaster at Hershey Park, called SkyRush. I am not sure why I agreed to go on this roller coaster, considering most of the time at amusement parks I entertain myself with food, and miniature rides that stay level to the ground. Unlike me, my friend liked the rush and heart dropping feeling of being at the apex of a roller coaster and then dropping down at maximum speed. Personally, I preferred the ground, where I remained in full control of my own safety. Yet that afternoon I found myself standing in line for SkyRush.…

My parents however, really wanted to go on so they left me with my nine year old brother Ryan. Ryan and I headed towards the dock and waited for our parents' car to come by. My first time at Cedar Point It was June 6th, 2016, the end of my eighth-grade year at TKMS, I woke up, at 5:30, jumped out of bed, got dressed, ate, and yelled at my mom to get in the car, all by 6:20. But of course we weren’t even close to ready, and we didn’t even need to leave until 7:30. So after reluctantly going back inside, to pack a spare pair of clothes, sunscreen, and our tickets (which we almost forgot), we were finally ready to go and it was already 7:40, “MOM!!!” I yelled panicking, “WE’RE GONNA BE LATE!!!” “We’re fine,” my mom said, “now calm down and say goodbye.”…

It was the largest, most thrilling roller coaster yet to be found. I didn't believe it but knowing my best friend Prisa she was not gonna let me miss out on as she would always say, “once in a lifetime opportunities”. It was a hot, sunny day as the sun lit up the whole park. The blunt air had no wind or even a soft gentle breeze. It was just plain old humid and to add on to that, we were crowded with a solid 200 people in the line,…

When we think of amusement parks, such as Disney and Six flags there is no learning involve. Let alone does anyone ever think that one could help them understand a tragedy like 9-11. We only think of fun, laughter, games, and roller coasters. We do not see swamps based on the Vietnam war or roller coasters based on OJ Simpson car chase in 1994. It seems so unusual for some people to have a theme park like this.…

For example my mom told me that the first time I was on the plane I was having way too much fun with the turbulence, that while everyone was scared of the really heavy I was laughing and thinking about it as a roller coaster. I went every year to Santo Domingo by small charter planes that my family would rent out. Also for the first few years of my life, it think it stopped when I was around 8, I went to my grandmothers on my father’s side house in Florida to Disneyland and the other parks in Orlando. I’ve also always really loved roller coasters. Been going to theme parks since a young age… even the cheap one that were over in Puerto Rico that you could swear would brake if you got…
