My VMD Of Animal Science: A Career In Education

Decent Essays
Growing up in a family that doesn’t support your education and that doesn’t financially support your education isn’t the best set of circumstances that a student wants. At Pasadena City College I am majoring in Natural Sciences but going towards my VMD of Animal Science to become a veterinarian. I was raised in a farming family where over 100 animals have been cared for at a certain time. The traits of taking care of 30 chickens,30 rabbits, 40 quail, 7 ducks, 9 parakeets, 2 pheasants, 2 pigs, and 5 turtles while studying at PCC isn’t an easy challenge but a challenge that kept me going despite my financial hardship during my education. Through working with these animals I have acquired an animal loving heart. Having to cry over the deaths

I worked in the biology lab labeling pelts, bones, and animal specimens; by twenty-one, I obtained my bachelor’s degree and strived for my first job out of university. That summer, I joined Humane Society Naples and worked as a veterinary assistant, while also volunteering at the Conservancy of Southwest Florida in wildlife rehabilitation. This is my turning point and reminds me of Claudia at age seven, who wanted to save animals. The most vivid and unforgettable part of my time there was seeing the transformation of the animal’s health and behavior. From the time, they come into the shelter, scared and sometimes in pain, to then being apart of the team to medically assess and treat them, to witness their ability to play with other animals, and then to the joys of adopters coming in looking for their forever pet, is…

One day when the family returned home after going on a trip and Grant wasn’t at the door, so the family went out to go look for him and that was when they found him lying on the ground looking really sick. The family had to take Grant to the veterinary clinic where they were informed that he was really sick. Doing an internship as a local veterinary assistant has seemed really interesting to be a future career.…

Several minutes into surgery after the use of both a saw and bone cutters, I could feel the sense of satisfaction in the room as the tail was successfully amputated from the six year old German shepherd. Observing the surgeon, pleased by how the surgery had gone suture the skin around where the highly infected tail used to be I was once again reassured that veterinary medicine is the course I wish to study. l believe that being a vet is a diverse, challenging yet rewarding career, as there is no other career in the field of medicine that requires you to be an optician, surgeon, dentist and internist all in one day. Learning about animal conservation and the risks that the animals face in biology, has encouraged me as an individual to volunteer at a RSPCA charity shop assistant to raise money for vulnerable animals. My knowledge and animal handling skills have been broadened further due to my voluntary work at Hounslow urban farm, where I spend time alongside the vet…

I still feel a jolt of excitement when observing the flamingos, Bengal tigers, giraffes, and more animals from all around the world. I would spend all day at the zoo if my family lets me.…
